West Indies and South Africa kick off a new T20I series on Friday from Cave Hill. West Indies did well to win the first ODI but were then heavily beaten by South Africa in the next two matches as South Africa’s batters found some form. 

West Indies have been in poor form for a while now but will be hoping that a change in format will help them, much like it does for their men’s team. West Indies will prefer this format as it gives them a much better chance of making an impact on the game in a shorter window.

In the previous match, West Indies were convincingly beaten by 166 runs via the DLS method as they were bowled out for 121 in their hefty chase of 288 in 39 overs. 

There were some runs from Jahzara Claxton and Aaliyah Alleyne, who scored 43 and 32 respectively, to bring some semblance of respectability to the score. 

With the ball, Afy Fletcher was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 53 from her 10 overs.

South Africa Form

After Marizanne Kapp’s return, South Africa have been in exceptional form, winning both of their matches rather easily. That will bode well for a team that has struggled for consistency in the longer formats of the game.
