New Zealand vs Sri Lanka Women Preview

New Zealand and Sri Lanka will open their T20 series with the opener in Christchurch on Friday afternoon as the home season in New Zealand picks back momentum. New Zealand are coming into this series on the back of a routine 2-0 ODI series win last week.

New Zealand have shown their class through this series, particularly with the ball. Their familiarity with these conditions have been evident as they have beaten Sri Lanka with pure discipline, hitting the right areas and getting just rewards.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have shown their inconsistency a touch. They prefer to play on slower pitches, with more for the spinners. In these conditions, their bowlers have been slightly off, and that’s enough for a quality team like New Zealand.

New Zealand Form

There aren’t too many changes for New Zealand from the ODI squad, with Suzie Bates still leading. New Zealand’s batting form will be tested in the T20Is, but with Maddy Green and Brooke Halliday in form, you would expect New Zealand to come out on top.

New Zealand Team News

Isabella Gaze (hip flexor), Hayley Jensen (hip flexor) and Bella James (quadricep) were ruled out of the T20I series with injuries, but New Zealand have called up Polly Inglis, Bree Illing and Flora Devonshire as replacements.

"Bree and Polly had a really positive start to their ODI career. They both showed great intent and execution and I'm confident they're ready to take on this next challenge. Flora's shown a lot of all-round potential at the domestic level and is another exciting young player that has qualities consistent with what we're looking for in the White Ferns,” coach Ben Sawyer said.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka need their batters to stand up and score runs quickly. They have found no rhythm or fluency apart from one or two batters, which will be a big issue for the team against a team that has been excellent in these conditions.

Sri Lanka Team News

While Sri Lanka don’t have injury concerns, they need their best batters to score runs at a fair clip.

Verdict

New Zealand showed why they are so tough to beat in these conditions in the ODI series. They were excellent right through, and eventually came away with a 2-0 win. That series had enough evidence to prove that there are big discrepancies between these two teams in multiple respects. Take New Zealand to come away with another win at home.
