Once those matches are concluded the top two teams from each group advance to the semi finals where the top of Group A plays the second placed Group B side. The top of Group B plays the second placed team in Group A in the other semi final.

The Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup began in 2009 and has become a biennial international tournament. The first edition was hosted by England in 2009 where the hosts ran out winners against New Zealand by six wickets.

The first three editions for the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup (2009, 2010, 2012) saw eight participating teams but the number rose to 10 from 2014 onwards. There are a set number of teams that qualify for the tournament automatically while others have to go through qualifying tournaments – this is determined by world ranking.
