The second biggest tournament in darts begins on Monday, as the 2021 Premier League Darts gets underway. While the tournament is usually staged on Thursday nights, this year's Premier League has been condensed, with the first round of fixtures taking place over a two-week period.
Day one kicks off with a re-run of last year's final, as Nathan Aspinal takes on the defending champion, Glen Durrant. Here's our treble for day one of the 2021 Premier League.
2021 Premier League Darts Tips - Day One Treble
Rob Cross vs Jose De Sousa
JOSE DE SOUSA couldn't have picked a better opponent to make his Premer League debut against. Former World Champion, Rob Cross has been struggling badly with his game over the last six months, and hasn't made it past the final 32 stage in any of his last eight tournaments.
De Sousa earned his spot in the Premier League by claiming a shock major victory in the 2020 Grand Slam. The 47-year-old has maintained a high level of form since, and has been performing well in recent Players Championship events. I'm expecting De Sousa to make a winning start.
Peter Wright vs Jonny Clayton
Peter Wright is a formidable opponent for anyone and will be very hard to beat. Yet, the form-horse on the PDC circuit is JONNY CLAYTON, and I'm hoping the Welshman can produce an inspired display on his Premier League debut.
Clayton snatched the final spot in the Premier League by winning his first major, the 2021 Masters. Since then, Clayton has won two of the eight Players' Championship events he's entered, while also reaching the final in two other tournaments. "The Ferret" is more than a match for anyone on the tour right now, and could send Peter Wright packing on day one.
Gerwyn Price vs Gary Anderson
The best bet on day one has to be GERWYN PRICE, who faces his old foe, Gary Anderson. The reigning World Champion has been in good form on the circuit, winning the sixth Players Championship event before losing to Peter Wright in the final of the last tournament he played.
Gary Anderson, on the other hand, has lost in the first round of the two televised tournaments he's entered this year, and hasn't made it past the second round in any of his last five Players' Championship events. 10/11 on Gerwyn Price to win is fantastic value.
