The Carolina Royal Ravens had a solid game against the Boston Breach last week, but it was their first solid performance in a while. Moreover, the Royal Ravens have not looked as good against tougher opponents, so I find it hard to believe that game means anything.

OpTic Texas, on the other side, stomped Vancouver Surge in the first week and finally showed what they are capable of. Even with the roster change, OpTic will have momentum on their side, and if they show half of what they did against Surge, they should be set to start a win streak.

Carolina Royal Ravens Form

Carolina Royal Ravens have not had the most inspiring run in CDL 2025 Stage 3, crashing out of the Major in last place with losses to Minnesota and LA Thieves (1-3 and 0-3). Things did not improve much at the start of Stage 4 either, as Royal Ravens lost to Toronto Ultra (1-3) but defeated Boston Breach (3-0).

It was an interesting week for Royal Ravens, who again proved they are not good on Hardpoint and Control. Search & Destroy is still very solid, but with poor performances on respawn, it is hard to feel optimistic about this team.

OpTic Texas Form

OpTic Texas played just one game in the first week of CDL 2025 Major 4 Qualifiers; however, they surprised many by beating the Vancouver Surge 3-0.

It was an excellent game from OpTic, who looked like an entirely different team following a very concerning run through the last two stages. Their communication was excellent, and Skyz had one of his best games of the season.

However, despite the strong start, OpTic decided to make a roster change and brought in Mercules to replace Skyz, which looks like a bit of a head scratcher, although it could be a positive change.

OpTic's victory against Surge is more impactful, as it may seem that it could give OpTic the momentum they need to start performing as well as we know they can.

The Carolina Royal Ravens seem to be all over the place. They are good on Search & Destroy, but very iffy on respawns, namely on Control. They definitely have room for growth, but it remains to be seen whether Carolina Royal Ravens will find more success against tougher opponents.

OpTic Texas are also a bit of an enigma. They had a poor run in Stage 3; however, they produced their best game of the season last week, which should inspire some confidence.

While there is no telling whether their victory against the Vancouver Surge means anything, the momentum OpTic gained from that victory is not to be ignored.
