Vancouver Surge and Boston Breach will face off on Saturday, March 22, in the upper bracket semifinals of Call of Duty League (CDL) 2025 Stage 2 Major. While both teams did well to make it this far, Boston Breach are not expected to come out ahead.

The Breach caused a massive upset in the opening round of the Major when they defeated the tournament favourites, LA Thieves, 3-1, securing a clash with the Vancouver Surge, who swept Carolina Royal Ravens 3-0.

The Breach have overperformed on the day, which, in combination with the LA Thieves’ poor showing, made the Boston-based squad look much better than they are. Surge are a far more stable team than the Theves and rightly billed as firm favourites for this match.

Vancouver Surge entered CDL 2025 Major 2 as one of the dark horses to win the tournament. While they still have some way to go, the Surge kicked off the OpTic-hosted event with a 3-0 sweep of the Carolina Royal Ravens.

It was a fairly competitive game, ending in 250-236 on Hardpoint-Vault, 6-3 on Search & Destroy-Red Card, and 3-2 on Control-Vault.

With that win, the Surge are 7-3 over their last 10 games, with two losses to LA Thieves and one close defeat against Toronto Ultra.

Boston Breach Form

Boston Breach accomplished the unthinkable in the opening round of CDL 2025 Major 2, when they defeated Los Angeles Thieves 3-1. The Breach won the series with 250-230 on Hardpoint-Hacienda, 6-4 on Search& Destroy-Hacienda, 0-6 on Control-Vault, and 250-242 on Hardpoint-Skyline.

While it was a very close series, Boston Breach edged out the win, beating the tournament favourites and with that they left a strong statement. While an impressive win on paper it was a complete fluke and in no way an indication of how good the Breach are.

Vancouver Surge v Boston Breach

Boston Breach defeated Los Angeles Thieves in the first round of CDL 2025 Major 2, but they are unlikely to see the same success against the Vancouver Surge. The Breach overperformed in the opening round, and I would not praise them too much for that win.

The Breach have been anything but great this season and will need to produce more before I can see them beating one of the more consistent teams in the league. I’ll give them a map, but anything more than that is unlikely.
