The Turkish Counter-Strike esports squad started their campaign with a 2-0 sweep of FlyQuest, then bested Sangal Esports (2-0) and played a fairly competitive game one against Natus Vincere in the upper bracket final.

Not only have Eternal Fire outdone themselves in Malta, but they’ve also made the finals of BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 #2 with wins against HEROIC, FURIA, paiN Gaming, and MOUZ. With those results, Eternal Fire are 11-4 from their last 15.

The MongolZ Form

The MongolZ have made a name for themselves as a competitive Counter-Strike team by winning YaLLa Compass 2024 and securing a silver medal at Skyesports Championship 2024.

In some other bigger events, namely the Esports World Cup 2024 and Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2024, The MongolZ have no accomplished as much, yet they still posted competitive series against some of the world’s top teams.

The same trend continued in Group B, where The MongolZ finished fourth with wins against KOI (2-0), 9z Team (2-0), and 3DMAX (2-0). Moreover, they played a competitive series against Team Spirit (1-2), who The MongolZ nearly beat.

In the first round of the playoffs, MongolZ edged past BIG (2-1) in a series which could’ve easily ended in a 2-0 sweep for either team. So, while they’ve had their moments, MongolZ have been far from dominant on their road to the round of 12.

Eternal Fire v The MongolZ

Both teams have done surprisingly well on their ESL Pro League Season 20 campaign, and looking at their recent results, it is hard to say which of the two did better. The MongolZ had the luxury of playing more games, yet that included some close calls, whereas Eternal Fire had a fairly smooth road to a runner-up finish in Group A.

Eternal Fire have a better map pool, which explains why they are priced as favourites. Yet their map win rates are not significantly better, except for Anubis, Inferno, and Vertigo. It would not be the most shocking thing to see Eternal Fire come out ahead, but we have to show MongolZ some respect.
