FaZe Clan vs Evil Geniuses Predictions

FaZe Clan and Evil Geniuses will clash on Monday, May 29, in the first round of Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2023 Group B. It'll mark their first meeting since BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2022 in August, when FaZe Clan won 16-8.

According to the latest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive betting odds, FaZe Clan should not struggle to beat Evil Geniuses as they enter the match as heavy 1.16 favourites. Meanwhile, Evil Geniuses are priced at 4.50, which gives them just a 22.2% implied probability of beating FaZe.

The offered betting odds look fair, considering EG's lack of success over the last 12 months; however, we've seen crazier things happen in the best-of-one series.

  • A clash between the current no.3 and no.54 teams in the world.
  • Evil Geniuses have not beaten a top-10 ranked team in over one year.
  • A must-win match for FaZe Clan.

Head to Head

FaZe Clan and Evil Geniuses last met in August 2022, during BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2022, but not once since then.

  • FaZe Clan 16-8 Evil Geniuses – August 21, 2022

FaZe Clan Form

FaZe Clan enter IEM Dallas 2023 following a disappointing run at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, where they reached the playoffs only to get eliminated by Heroic (2-1) in the quarterfinals. Their top-eight place finish at the Major came just one month after FaZe placed ninth-12th at IEM Rio 2023, which marked the only tournament of the year where FaZe failed to finish higher than top eight.

However, FaZe won ESL Pro League Season 17 in March and claimed Intel Grand Slam Season 4, for which they deserve some praise. Still, it's tough to ignore FaZe's lack of success in bigger events over the last few months, which is one of the main reasons why it's fair to doubt their chances to win the trophy in Dallas.

FaZe Clan Squad & Team News

FaZe Clan have not announced any roster changes ahead of IEM Dallas 2023.

  • Håvard "rain" Nygaard
  • Helvijs "broky" Saukants
  • Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken
  • Finn "karrigan" Andersen
  • Robin "ropz" Kool

Evil Geniuses Form

Evil Geniuses used to be one of North America's top Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams, but it's been years since then. Nowadays, EG are more of a laughing stock in the CS:GO world, as they haven't achieved anything noteworthy in over two years.

This season, EG have yet to win a single CS:GO event, and their best performance came at CCT West Europe Series #3, where they placed fifth-eighth. Since then, Evil Geniuses crashed out of Gamers Without Borders North America 2023 in fifth-eighth, and again at ESEA Cash Cup Circuit 2023: North American Cup #7.

The fact that Evil Geniuses couldn't win ESEA Cash Cup is extremely concerning as it was a C-Tier event, featuring mostly teams that are ranked outside of the world top 100. And knowing that Evil Geniuses couldn't deliver against significantly weaker squads makes it very tough to believe they stand a chance against FaZe Clan – even though FaZe are not in the best shape.

Evil Geniuses Squad & Team News

Evil Geniuses have not announced any lineup changes.

  • Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte
  • Timothy "autimatic" Ta
  • Sanzhar "neaLaN" Iskhakov
  • Jerric "wiz" Jiang
  • Ismail "refrezh" Ali

Verdict

This truly is a David vs Goliath match where the only thing working in EG's favour is that it's a best-of-one (Bo1) game. Bo1s are known for upsets, and often they offer excellent betting opportunities on the underdogs, but I have no desire to back Evil Geniuses here.

Evil Geniuses have not won or come close to winning a match against a top-10 team for over one year, and it's highly unlikely that'll change. FaZe are not in the best form, but they are still one of the strongest CS:GO teams in the world, and I expect that to show on Monday.
