About Intel Extreme Masters

Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio is an offline Brazilian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) tournament hosted by ESL in association with Intel, Predator Gaming, 1xBet, DHL, Monster Energy, Coinbase, and the U.S Air Force.

The S-Tier tournament has a prize pool of $250,000 and features 16 teams. It will be hosted at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro every year since its first edition in 2022.

The inaugural edition of the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio took place in 2022. It was the eighteenth CS:GO Major Championship and the first in the region. The tournament took place between October 31 and November 13, 2022 with The Outsiders taking home the trophy.

The inaugural edition was slated to take place in 2020 but could not go as scheduled due to Covid-19 complications. Valve and ESL postponed the Majors to November. However, in September, the Majors were canceled due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Brazil. In January 2021, Valve announced PGL Major Stockholm as the next Major instead of Rio.

In August 2022, the Road to Rio was launched by ESL, making their intentions clear about the 2023 Majors. The tickets for the first-ever Majors in Brazil sold out in less than an hour.
