Monte vs GamerLegion Predictions

Monte and GamerLegion will meet on Friday, May 19, in BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 quarterfinals, which marks the first Major playoffs appearance for both teams. Neither were expected to qualify for the Major, yet they’re now just two games away from reaching the playoffs.

Esports bookmakers have Monte priced as 1.675 favourites to defeat GamerLegion on Friday, which sounds a bit unfair; however, Monte have been playing well for the past two months, so perhaps they’re stronger than many expect.

  • Monte went 3-1 in the Legends Stage
  • GamerLegion had a slow start to the tournament but found traction just in time
  • Clash of two Tier-2 teams

Head to Head

Monte and GamerLegion have never met before.

Monte Form

Monte have been simply phenomenal this tournament, both relative to the expectations and otherwise. The Ukrainian squad were initially not even considered contenders to qualify for BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, and yet they achieved far more than that.

In the Challengers Stage, Monte needed all five games to reach the second stage of the tournament, with defeats against FORZE and FaZe and three convincing victories against Fluxo, The MongolZ, and paiN Gaming. But it didn’t stop there.

In the Legends Stage, Monte looked even better and won three of their four series, against FURIA, Natus Vincere, and Fnatic, while their only defeat came against the tournament favourites, Team Vitality. This might not seem like a lot, but Monte were not long ago viewed as a second-tier team, and yet they’ve been regularly defeating squads that are much stronger than them.

GamerLegion Form

GamerLegion, like Monte, weren’t expected to make the Major, yet through consistency and strong showings, they’ve qualified for the playoffs. In The Challengers Stage, GamerLegion lost their first two games against Complexity and The MongolZ, but then went on a tear and defeated MOUZ, OG, and FORZE to qualify for the Legends Stage.

In Legends, GamerLegion showed no signs of slowing down. Despite losing their first match against Natus Vincere, GamerLegion looked incredible in their wins against 9INE, Fnatic, and Apeks, and while beating 9INE, Fnatic, and Apeks isn’t nearly as impressive as what Monte have achieved, GamerLegion looked very good in their wins.

GamerLegion Squad & Team News

GamerLegion won’t make any lineup changes.

Verdict

This match is incredibly tough to predict. We have two tier-two teams that are playing like top-tier CS:GO squads and have players of similar calibre. Still, Monte have impressed me more because they’ve beaten FURIA, Fnatic, and NaVi, whereas GamerLegion have “only” won against 9INE, Fnatic, and Apeks.

It wouldn’t be too shocking to see GamerLegion win, but based on what we’ve seen from the two teams over the last couple of months, Monte look like a safer choice. They’ve been far more consistent in their showings, and if they can keep at it, the Ukrainians should come out ahead.

GamerLegion should be good for one map, so I’m adding a correct score prediction.
