Still, we saw SAW post some promising results over the last few weeks. They defeated G2 Esports (2-0) in the opening series of Group A, then edged past The MongolZ (2-1) and put up a decent fight against Natus Vincere (1-2) in the Group A finals.

Whether SAW’s run so far was a fluke is up to debate; however, seeing them get absolutely smoked by NaVi (2-13, 6-13) on the final two maps on Tuesday proves that SAW might not be quite ready to face elite teams.

FaZe Clan are always a threat to win any significant Counter-Strike tournament, and they are a serious candidate to end up with the IEM Cologne 2024 trophy in their hands. The road there won’t be easy, but their playoff run will start with the easiest opponent FaZe could have wished for.

FaZe Clan made it through the group stage via the lower bracket, with wins against Team Vitality (2-1), Team Falcons (2-0) and two against Team Liquid (2-0, 2-1). They had to dig deep to defeat Liquid in the lower bracket final.

The final map started with Liquid taking an 11-1 lead on Mirage before FaZe clan fought back to take it 16-13 in overtime – which shows FaZe have a clutch factor, granted that’s nothing new with this team.

Verdict

SAW v FaZe Clan

SAW have looked much better than expected this tournament and even managed to put up a fight against two of the top teams in the world – G2 Esports and Natus Vincere. But those results don’t prove SAW belong among the elite few.

With all due respect, SAW were a bit lucky to make it past G2 Esports, who didn’t play well on the day. And the final two maps against NaVi should serve as a good indication of where SAW actually stand relative to the top squads.

FaZe Clan had a bit of a bumpy road against Liquid in the group stage, but this team is very efficient in beating lesser squads, so unless FaZe blunder heavily, they should take care of SAW easily.
