The International 2023 is the final event of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season with Team Spirit installed as the early favourites.

One of the biggest and most prestigious esports tournaments of the year, the event will take place in Seattle, Washington and welcome 20 of the world's best Dota 2 teams who'll fight for the lion's share of a 3 million prize pool and the right to hoist the Aegis of Champions.

The International is known as a tournament which regularly sees strong favourites crumble on their path to the top and underdogs exceeding expectations, which adds a layer of excitement to the event; however, according to the offered betting odds, there is a clear line between the main favourites to win and the rest.

2023 The International Betting

Team Spirit (4.50), Gaimin Gladiators (5.00), and Team Liquid (6.00) travel to Seattle as the three main favourites to win the tournament, and it's very difficult to argue with that logic.

Even though there are other teams attending the event, which shouldn't be ignored, Spirit, Gaimin Gladiators, and Liquid belong in a tier of their own.

The International 2023 Contenders

European powerhouse Gaimin Gladiators have won many events this season, including Lima Major, DreamLeague Season 19, DreamLeague Season 20, Bali Major, and BetBoom Dacha, which is by far the most impressive record of any team.

Meanwhile, their regional rivals, Team Liquid, always kept a close distance, having made the finals of several big events, including the Lima Major, DreamLeague Season 19, Berlin Major, Bali Major, and the Ryidah Masters. However, unlike Gaimin Gladiators, they haven't won once.

The main favourites to win TI12 are Team Spirit, who have looked fairly mediocre throughout the season and failed to deliver in Lima (seventh-eight) and finished the other two majors in ninth-12th place.

However, Team Spirit excelled in the ESL Pro Tour with titles from Ryidah Masters and DreamLeague Season 21. So, despite their shaky form early into the season, Spirit seem to have found momentum just in time and look set to reclaim the Aegis of Champions.

Moving down the list of teams that can do well, we have Tundra Esports, who have proven themselves as a formidable team. However, while Tundra can be dangerous, they had to go through some internal changes this season, replacing Martin "Saksa" Sazdov with Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen.

BetBoom Team (8.00) have not looked excellent this season, nor have they been as consistent as some other top-rated teams. There's no denying that BetBoom Team have the talent to compete with any team attending TI12, yet a lot of their success will depend on how the meta will develop.

LGD Gaming might be priced at 11.00, but they belong in the same tier as Tundra Esports and BetBoom Team – as a squad that can go all the way if the stars align. LGD Gaming had a rough start to the season but found some success with a third-place finish at DreamLeague Season 20, where they looked surprisingly good.

LGD Gaming seems like a bit of a hit-or-miss team that might struggle in the knockout stage. But with the talent this team has, there's no denying that LGD can defeat anyone.

On the topic of teams that can do well, we have to mention Quest Esports, who came up from Division 2 but quickly made a name for themselves with a fourth-place finish at Bali Major 2023 before ending the season with a seventh-eight place finish at Ryidah Masters and 11th-12th at DreamLeague Season 21.

The improvements Quest has shown over the year make them a dangerous underdog to make a splash, and while their results aren't the most impressive, perhaps Quest was a bit unlucky to meet strong favourites fairly early into their tournament runs.

Azure Ray (13.00), Shopify Rebellion (15.00), 9Pandas (19.00), beastcoast (23.00) and Talon Esports (23.00) have the tools to make something happen and should be able to do some damage at The International 2023. However, compared to other teams above them, their chances of going deep into the tournament are not that high.

This leaves us with some of the biggest outsiders in Entity (26.00), Evil Geniuses (34.00), Virtus.pro (51.00), Team SMG (51.00), TSM (101.00), Thunder Awaken (151.00), nouns (201.00), and Keyd Stars (201.00), who likely won't accomplish much, Even though they accomplished enough to qualify for the season-culminating event, they are mostly lesser versions of their regional rivals and will have to hope for a miracle to make much noise in Seattle.

Crazier things have happened at The International before, and with the meta changing, it's entirely possible that one of the underdogs will outperform the expectations and produce a deep run. Still, some teams are priced as favourites and others as outsiders for a reason.

The International 2023 kicks off on October 12, 2023, with the first round of the group stage and will conclude on October 29, when the top two teams will battle it out in a best-of-five (Bo5) series to determine the new Dota 2 world champion.
