Cloud9 and Bilibili Gaming will clash on Thursday, May 11, in the third round of the Mid-Season Invitational 2023 Upper Bracket Stage. It'll mark their first meeting, and according to the latest LoL betting odds, Bilibili Gaming should come out ahead.

Esports bookmakers have priced Bilibili Gaming as 1.28 favourites to defeat Cloud9, who enter the match as 3.50 underdogs. The offered LoL betting odds might seem fair, considering this is a clash between LPL runners-up and the LCS champions, but I'm not convinced with BLG.

Cloud9 and Bilibili Gaming have never met before.

Cloud9 aren't expected to defeat Bilibili Gaming, which is understandable considering how unsuccessful the LoL Championship Series (LCS) teams have been at international events over the last few years. However, this is a spot where I like Cloud9 to prove everyone wrong.

The main reason is Bilibili Gaming's performance in the MSI 2023 Play-In Stage. Even though BLG made it out of the Play-Ins with a perfect record, they didn't look too convincing against LCS's second seed, Golden Guardians. In fact, they came very close to losing the series.

And considering Cloud9 are substantially better than Golden Guardians, it's not too crazy to believe that Bilibili Gaming will struggle to deliver if they don't improve upon their showings in the Play-In.

As noted, Bilibili Gaming made it through the Play-Ins with a perfect record, but we have to consider that they could've easily lost against Golden Guardians, and they would've had Golden Guardians played slightly better.

Assuming Cloud9 play as well as they did domestically – where they were miles ahead of Golden Guardians and the rest of the teams – then it's tough to pass on them at the offered betting odds. Admittedly, Bilibili Gaming are still one of the elite teams at the MSI, but they're also one with the most issues.

Certainly, a solid squad that does well mainly due to their aggressive playstyle, but Cloud9 should match their early-game pressure.

Even though it's not fair to say that if BLG struggled against Golden Guardians, they should struggle even more against Cloud9, there's more to it than that. Bilibili Gaming are a strong team, but they have many flaws which Cloud9 can exploit, mainly in the mid-late game.

On the other side, anyone can feel a bit concerned about Cloud9 since they don't have as much experience playing on the international stage, so there's a chance they'll crumble under pressure. Nevertheless, qualitatively, Cloud9 are good enough to do serious damage and potentially win the series.

We're getting good odds on that, so I won't hesitate to back Cloud9.
