Gen.G and Cloud9 will clash on Wednesday, May 17, in the second round of the Mid-Season Invitational 2023 Losers' Bracket, in what should be a very one-sided match. Gen.G are expected to dominate the LoL Championship Series (LCS) champions, and while this might sound right, the offered LoL betting odds are a bit too one-sided.

Gen.G qualified for MSI 2023 by winning the LoL Champions Korea (LCK) 2023 Spring season, and yet they entered the tournament as the third favourites to win the event, behind T1 and JD Gaming. That wasn't too surprising, and so far, it seems like the outright odds were right.

Gen.G started the tournament with a 3-1 win against G2 Esports but then lost against their regional rivals T1 (2-3) in the second round of the upper bracket. Gen.G didn't play poorly against T1 but were evidently the second-best team on the day.

However, even though Gen.G are weaker than T1, they're still miles ahead of Cloud9, which explains the latest betting odds.

Cloud9 locked in a ticket for MSI 2023 by winning the LoL Championship Series (LCS) 2023 Spring; however, despite their domestic success, Cloud9 have yet to accomplish much at the MSI 2023.

They lost their opening game against Bilibili Gaming (0-3) which is concerning. Even though BLG were priced as the favourites, Cloud9 should've shown more in that game, but they blundered their chances and lost without winning a single map.

Cloud9 then bounced back with a 3-1 victory against Golden Guardians in the first round of the Lower Bracket, which looks good on paper, but it mostly had to do with GG not playing well rather than Cloud9 showing anything remarkable. So far, Cloud9 have yet to impress, but we know that this team is capable of much more – will they prove it on Wednesday?

We have to take into account that Korean teams are and have been historically significantly stronger than North American LoL teams, and based on what Cloud9 and Gen.G have shown, that still holds true. Gen.G are a top-tier team who should compete for the LoL Worlds title in 2023, whereas Cloud9 are a capable squad but not at the same level as Gen.G or any other elite team.

Still, Cloud9 aren't bad, and if they can step up and show what they're capable of, it's not too crazy to believe they can win a map. Sure, Cloud9's chances to upset Gen.G are slim to none, but winning one map in a Bo5 series is an achievable goal.

But most importantly, the offered odds on Cloud9 to win a map are too good to pass on.
