LGD Gaming finished LPL 2023 Spring in 14th place, with a 5-11 series record and a 13-25 map differential. With an abysmal 31% game-win rate, LGD Gaming came three wins short of qualifying for the playoffs, which doesn't look good, but they've improved towards the end of the year.

Now, heading into the new season, LGD Gaming have made several roster changes, which look quite promising on paper. They brought in a new top laner Chen "fearness" Guo-Ji and ADC Lee "Envyy" Myeong-joon, as well as a new mid laner Zheng "xqw" Xia-Jian from the academy team.

The coaching staff has remained untouched, and the core of the team is still here. It's tough to say how LGD Gaming will do with the new players. But considering how LGD Gaming finished last term and that they haven't really downgraded in any of the positions, things are looking good.

Hoping to find more success, Invictus Gaming have signed a new mid laner Yuan "Cryin" Cheng-Wei, jungler Guo "Tianzhen" Qi-Fan and ADC Luo "xiaoyueji" Shi-Hao, but it remains to be seen how much playtime the new signings – besides Tianzhen will get.

Overall, IG have made a couple of upgrades, so they should do better than last split – but are they really as strong as the latest betting odds suggest?

Opening games of a new split are always tough to predict, especially when teams make roster changes and bring in unproven players. Luckily, for most of the new signings of Invictus Gaming and LGD Gaming, we know what they bring to the table.

This looks like Invictus Gaming's game to lose, but I wouldn't price them as 1.38 favourites. Although IG look better than last season, LGD Gaming aren't getting as much respect as they deserve. They've improved their top side, and with Envyy as their new ADC, LGD's bottom side should be much more stable, which essentially fixes their main weakness.

I don’t believe LGD Gaming have a realistic chance to compete for the LPL title, but they’re underrated and are worth a bet to beat IG.
