LPL Format & Tournament Structure
In 2013 and 2014, eight teams competed in a single-round robin stage, with the four best teams advancing to the playoffs.
Playoff matches were held in a best-of-five format, and all games were a draft pick. In the Grand Final, teams from the winners’ bracket would start with a 1-0 advantage
From 2013 to 2015, the group stages of the tournament played out over a best-of-two format. Teams scoring 2:0 would receive 3 points, and they would both get the point each for tying the game at 1-1.The games followed a double-round robin, ensuring that all teams would face each other twice.
Rankings would be determined by total points, and the top 4 teams would advance to the playoffs. The playoffs stage would then follow a format typical to that of any sporting tournament, where losing teams would be eliminated.
From 2019 onwards, 16 teams would compete in the opening stage as a single group. Every game played is decided by the best-of-three and follows a single round-robin format. The top eight teams from the group stages then advance to the playoffs.
In the playoff stages, all matches are best-of-five. Teams placing first and second in the playoffs directly qualify for the semifinals. Third and fourth-place teams qualify for the quarterfinals. The bottom three teams from the playoffs stage head to round 1 of the tournament.
