About Mid-Season Invitational 2023
Mid-Season Invitational 2023 (MSI 2023) is an upcoming international League of Legends tournament set to take place on May 2-21 at Copper Box Arena in London, England.
It will mark the first international LoL tournament of the year and one of just two international events on the schedule – besides the LoL World Championship.
MSI 2023 will welcome 13 teams from nine regions, including Europe, North America, China, Korea, Brazil, Latin America, Japan, Vietnam, and the Pacific, who will duke it out for the lion’s share of the $250,000 prize pool and the eternal glory that comes with winning the MSI trophy.
The MSI 2023 will mark the eighth edition of the tournament, which debuted in 2015 and has been held annually since, except for in 2020, when it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and replaced by a one-off 2020 Mid-Season Streamathon – an esports live streaming event.

Mid-Season Invitational Format
The 2023 Mid Season invitational introduced some changes to the format to accommodate 13 participating teams and to increase the number of matches played – as a response to the community’s outcries about the lack of a best-of-three (Bo3) series.
The 2023 MSI will be divided into the Play-In Stage and the Bracket Stage.
The Play-In Stage will kick off on May 2 and welcome eight teams, including the PCS, VCS, JLJ, CBLOL, and LLA champions and the runner-up teams from the LEC, LPL, and LCS.
The teams are drawn into two double-elimination brackets where all matches are played as best-of-three (Bo3) – except for the Last Chance Qualifiers, which will be best-of-five (Bo5).
The top teams from each group and the winner of the LCQ will proceed into the Bracket Stage, where they’ll join the top seeds from LCS, LEC, and LPL and the champions and runners-up from LCK.
The Bracket Stage will use a double-elimination bracket with all matches played as best-of-five (Bo5), including the grand finals, scheduled for May 21.

Mid-Season Invitational Past Tournaments
Mid-Season Invitational was first introduced in 2015, during the third season of competitive League of Legends, as an international event between the Spring and Summer Splits.
The idea behind the MSI was to introduce another international LoL tournament to the competitive schedule, giving the Spring Split champions of their respective leagues a chance to measure up against international opponents in preparation for the LoL World Championship.
Since its inaugural season, the MSI has seen many changes made to its format, namely by expanding the number of invited teams, which in 2023 reached 13 – two more than in 2022.
