SK Gaming vs Fnatic Predictions

Esports bookmakers have Fnatic priced as 1.16 favourites to defeat SK Gaming, who enter the match as 4.50 underdogs. The offered LoL betting odds make sense, as Fnatic have been one of the best teams of the regular season, whereas SK Gaming have barely made it to the Groups. And while we've seen crazier things happen, expecting SK Gaming to upset Fnatic is a bit too optimistic.
- SK Gaming defeated Fnatic on the final day of the regular season
- Fnatic look like a legitimately good team
- Will Fnatic perform as well in best-of-threes?
Head to Head
Fnatic and SK Gaming last met in the final round of LEC 2023 Summer, when SK Gaming upset Fnatic.
- SK Gaming 1-0 Fnatic – July 3, 2023
SK Gaming Form
SK Gaming ended the LEC 2023 Summer regular season in sixth place, tied with MAD Lions, KOI, and Team BDS at 4-5. With just four wins to their name, it's tough to say too many positive things about SK Gaming and even in some of their wins, SK haven't shown much.
The one victory that stands out was SK Gaming's upset of Fnatic on the final day of the regular season, but I wouldn't overreact to it. Fnatic weren't trying to win that game, nor did they have to, as Fnatic were already guaranteed a top-two finish.
Overall, SK Gaming haven't shown much and are rightly priced as the underdogs for their meeting with Fnatic.
SK Gaming Squad & Team News
SK Gaming have not announced any roster changes.
- Joel "Irrelevant" Miro Scharoll – top lane
- Mark "Markoon" van Woensel – jungle
- Daniel "Sertuss" Gamani – mid lane
- Thomas "Exakick" Foucou – ADC
- Mads "Doss" Schwartz – support
Fnatic Form
After a rough start to the year and several roster changes, Fnatic seem like they've finally got things figured out. They're playing solid and look like the best team in the league besides G2 Esports – who are arguably a bit better than Fnatic.
However, as good as Fnatic have been, there's always a chance they'll not do as well in best-of-series. The fact that they've looked that much better in summer leads me to believe that they're due to some regression in LEC 2023 Summer Groups, and it might happen once they face a team that can actually challenge them.
But while there's a world where Fnatic collapse, their run through the regular season was impressive and until they give us a reason to doubt them, it's fair to stay optimistic about Fnatic and what they can accomplish.
Fnatic Squad & Team News
No changes for Fnatic.
- Óscar "Oscarinin" Muñoz Jiménez – top lane
- Iván "Razork" Martín Díaz – jungle
- Marek "Humanoid" Brázda – mid lane
- Oh "Noah" Hyeon-taek – ADC
- Adrian "Trymbi" Trybus – support
Verdict
Fnatic are due to some regression, and they perhaps won't be as dominant in the best-of games as they were throughout the regular season. But the quality gap between SK Gaming and Fnatic is large enough to confidently say that Fnatic should win.
Fnatic have outperformed SK Gaming across all performance metrics this split – and it's not even close – which, on top of the fact that SK aren't exactly a good team and were a bit lucky to make it to the LEC 2023 Summer Groups, are two good reasons to back Fnatic to sweep.
