Team BDS vs Team Vitality Predictions

Excel Esports and Team Vitality will lock horns on Sunday, July 2, in the penultimate round of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) 2023 Summer. It is a crucial match for the teams as they're both in a very concerning spot ahead of the final two rounds of the split.

Esports bookmakers have Team BDS priced as 2.00 underdogs to defeat Team Vitality, who enter the match as 1.72 favourites. The two teams have looked equally as concerning this split, so it's not surprising to see them priced fairly close, but knowing that Team Vitality fields objectively better players, it's not too shocking to learn that they're expected to come away with a victory.

  • Team Vitality are falling apart
  • The current meta doesn’t suit Team BDS
  • At least one of the two teams won’t make the next stage of the split

Head to Head

Team Vitality and Team BDS last met in LEC 2023 Spring regular season, when Team BDS came away with a victory.

  • Team BDS 1-0 Team Vitality – March 25, 2023

Team BDS Form

Team BDS won the LEC 2023 Spring regular season and then reached the finals of the LEC 2023 Spring Playoffs, where BDS lost against MAD Lions (2-3). But despite their success three months back, Team BDS haven't accomplished much in the final split of the season.

With a 2-5 record, Team BDS are in serious danger of finishing the split inside the bottom two and failing to qualify for LEC 2023 Summer Groups. And based on how things have been going for them lately, this is a real possibility. But it's easy to see why BDS are struggling so much.

The current meta is very difficult for top lane carry teams, which Team BDS are. That's not to say that they don't have talented players in other positions, but two weeks into the split, Team BDS have yet to figure out how to approach their games.

On Saturday, Team BDS lost against Fnatic; however, it was a good effort from them. Moreover, Team
BDS were in an excellent spot to take down the Black & Orange, but a small misplay cost them the win.

Outcomes like that should make anyone wonder whether Team BDS are actually that bad, but on a more positive note, BDS have at least put themselves in a winning position against Fnatic, which counts for something.

Team BDS Squad & Team News

Top laner Adam "Adam" Maanane returned to the roster on Saturday and is expected to start on Sunday.

  • Adam "Adam" Maanane – top lane
  • Théo "Sheo" Borile – jungle
  • Ilias "nuc" Bizriken – mid lane
  • Juš "Crownie" Marušič – ADC
  • Labros "Labrov" Papoutsakis – support

Team Vitality Form

Team Vitality are 1-6 ahead of the penultimate round of the LEC 2023 Summer regular season, meaning they have to win their next two games and hope that SK Gaming don't secure a single win if they wish to proceed to LEC 2023 Summer Groups.

On Saturday, Team Vitality played their first match with a new jungler Kacper "Daglas" Dagiel, but couldn't make it work and lost against KOI. It wasn't a particularly bad performance from the Bees, but it's becoming clear that Vitality have imploded, which is evident from the individual performances of their players who are not playing at the level you would expect.

This is still a very stacked team, fielding some of the best players from the region. But that hasn't helped them achieve much this split, so why will it be any different on Sunday?

Team Vitality Squad & Team News

Team Vitality have recently replaced the starting jungler but won't make any additional changes for this match.

  • Kyeong "Photon" Gyu-tae – top lane
  • Kacper "Daglas" Dagiel – jungle
  • Luka "Perkz" Perković – mid lane
  • Elias "Upset" Lipp – ADC
  • Norman "Kaiser" Kaiser – support

Verdict

Team Vitality have all the tools needed to compete for the LEC 2023 Summer title, but they have proven that they don't know how to use them. That doesn't mean that Vitality can't suddenly find some traction, win the next two games, and actually accomplish something in LEC 2023 Summer Groups. But it looks like the chances of that happening are extremely low.

The morale in Vitality is at an all-time low, and it's becoming very noticeable that this team has imploded. So far, Vitality haven't shown anything worth praising, so even though they should beat Team BDS, Vitality might just crumble (again) and set themselves up for an early offseason.
