Leading Contenders for the M4 World Championships

RRQ Hoshi

Indonesia-based RRQ Hoshi haven’t won the Championship title yet, but there’s no denying they’re among the most consistent teams on the circuit.

They finished as runners up at M1, then in third place at M2, and 5th-6th seed in M3. they’re also three-time champions of the MPL Indonesia, having won Season 2 in 2018, and Seasons 5 and 6 in 2020.

Burmese Ghouls

A case must be made for the Burmese Ghouls as well, who finished in fourth place at M1 and runners-up at M2 to Bren Esports.

They have showcased their potential before at the MLBB World Championships.

Blacklist International

Blacklist International, the defending MLBB world champions, are emerging as one of the strongest teams in the Philippines.

Blacklist International won M3 World Championship when beating ONIC Philippines into second place 12 months ago.

The organization was formed only in 2020 so they’ve played just six seasons, out of which they’ve won three.

M4 World Championships Format

The first leg of the tournament is the Group Stage, where the 16 teams are divided into four groups of four. Each group plays out a single round robin, and all the matches will be played as best-of-one.

There is no elimination at this stage, but their seeds here will determine their placement in the Playoffs stage, which is structured as a double elimination bracket.

The top two teams from each group proceed to the upper Playoffs bracket, while the bottom two will go on to play the lower bracket.

In case of a two-way tiebreaker, the higher position will be decided by the previous head to head. If three teams are tied on the same scorer, they are sorted according to their winning match times.

The bottom two teams play a best-of-one, and the winner squares off against the team with the shortest game win. The winner of this game will claim the higher position.

The Grand Final will be a best-of-seven series, while the first two rounds of the lower bracket are best-of-three. All the other playoffs matches are best-of-five.
