KRU Esports vs Rule One Predictions

KRU Esports and Rule One will clash on Thursday, July 6, in the first round of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) 2022-23 Spring Split Major. It'll mark their first meeting ever and a very important match for both RL squads.

Esports betting sites have Rule One priced as 1.61 favourites and KRU Esports as 2.20 underdogs for Thursday's match, which mainly has to do with the fact that KRU Esports hail from a (perceived) weaker region. However, the market has consistently undervalued South American teams, and yet we saw them perform well at Major events in the past.

  • KRU Esports hail from a weaker region
  • Rule One are expected to do well at the Major
  • It could be a much closer match than expected

Head to Head

KRU Esports and Rule One have never met before.

KRU Esports Form

KRU Esports are the current highest-rated team from South America, having accumulated 72 RLCS Ranking Points throughout the spring split. They won Spring Open, then placed third in Spring Cup, but got back on the horse with a dominant lower bracket run at Spring Invitational.

With two gold medals and one bronze, KRU Esports are the undisputed best SAM Rocket League esports team, but despite their dominant showing in the domestic league, KRU Esports aren't expected to achieve much at the Major. That is mainly because SAM isn't known to be a very strong region.

Nevertheless, KRU Esports weren't expected to do much at the last Major, and yet finished fifth-eighth, which is very impressive. Since then, KRU have not made any roster changes and have looked even better domestically, so there is a reason to believe that KRU will outperform expectations once more.

Rule One Form

Rule One have qualified for RLCS 2022-23 Spring Split Major as the best EMEA team. They finished the spring split with 72 points and the exact same haul as KRU – two gold medals (Spring Open and Spring Invitational) and one bronze medal (Spring Cup).

Rule One's success in the EMEA league is hardly surprising since the team acquired the top talent from the region, including former Twisted Minds player Abdullah "ams" Alsubaie, who joined the roster in April. And if we look back at Rule One's results, it's very clear they're a class above any other EMEA Rocket League team, as they've only been challenged by Twisted Minds.

But as good as Rule One have been this split, this team has no experience competing on LAN, which could be a problem. Even though we can't say for sure how the players will perform on the big stage, there's a good chance at least one of the members will have some stage nerves, and let's not forget that Yazid Abdullah "Kiileerrz" Bakhashwin and Saleh Abdullah "Rw9" Bakhashwin are just 16-years old.

Verdict

Esports betting sites have Rule One priced as favourites, which might sound fair, but the number isn't right. Even though Rule One are by far the best team from EMEA, that doesn't necessarily mean that they're better than KRU.

Moreover, unlike Rule One, KRU have plenty of experience competing in big tournaments, and they looked very good in Winter Major. Talent-wise, Rule One might have a slight edge, but the LAN experience isn't to be overlooked. I like KRU Esports at the offered RLCS betting odds.
