RLCS 2022/23 Spring Split Major Predictions

Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) 2022/23 Spring Split Major is set to kick off on Thursday, July 6, at Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts, where the world’s best 16 Rocket League esports teams will battle for crucial RLCS Points and the lion’s share of the $310,000 prize pool.

Out of all the attending teams, one stands out. Team Vitality are priced as the main favourites to win the tournament, and while a handful of squads can challenge them, this should be a one-horse race. But from a betting perspective, there are a few other squads worth checking out.

  • Team Vitality are the main favourites
  • The gap between Europe and NA is significant
  • Will we see another deep run from an underdog?

RLCS 2022/23 Spring Split Major Odds

According to the latest RLCS Major outright betting odds, there are a few teams who are legitimate contenders for the title, but there is still a noticeable gap between the top squads and the rest.

Team Vitality (4.33) are priced as the leading favourites to win in Boston, followed by Karmine Corp (5.50), Gen.G (7.50) in third, and Team BDS (8.00) as the fourth favourites. Team Liquid, who’ve fallen off slightly over the last two months, are next, priced at 9.00 and are the only remaining Rocket League esports team at single digits.

Moving into the underdog category, we have FURIA (11.00), Moist Esports (13.00), Spacestation Gaming (13.00), OpTic Gaming (13.00), and Complexity (17.00), who’ve all shown something leading to the Major but are still considered much weaker than the top contenders.

Lastly, we have complete outsiders in Ground Zero Gaming (26.00), KRU Esports (26.00), Ninjas in Pyjamas (29.00), PWR (29.00), Rule One (34.00), and Elevate (101.00), who’ll have to produce something remarkable to make a deep run in Boston and potentially compete for the RLCS Major title.

The offered outright betting odds paint a clear picture of what the balance of power in the RLCS looks like. However, a couple of squads aren’t getting as much respect as they deserve and represent an excellent betting opportunity at great odds.

Teams To Watch

Team Vitality are priced as 4.33 favourites to win RLCS Spring Split Major, and it’s really tough to argue with that. Vitality have won four straight tournaments leading to the Major, including three RLCS EU tournaments (Spring Open, Spring Cup, and Spring Invitational) and Herculyse’s New Era Series: European Path to Pro.

And since Europe is known to be the strongest region in the world, Vitality’s accomplishments this season become much more impressive.

Even though the favourites to win RLCS Spring Major are clear, the power rankings after Vitality become a bit messier. Esports betting sites have Karmine Corp (5.50) and Gen.G (7.50) priced as the second and third strongest team, followed by Team BDS (8.00) in fourth. This order is not right.

Team BDS definitely deserve to be considered at least the third-best team at the tournament, and I would argue that they’re better than Karmine Corp. The latter have made the finals of Spring Cup but finished the Spring Invitational in fourth place, which suggests that KC have lost some traction.

Gen.G Mobil1 Racing, who were very good at the end of 2022, don’t even deserve to be in conversation of one of the top five teams at the tournament, mainly due to their significant drop-off since May. They have LAN experience, but their form is lacking.

Outsiders That Can Do Well

Spacestation Gaming (13.00) are priced as the eighth-most likely team to win the Major and as the third-strongest North American team. They should sit atop that list.

Spacestation Gaming have not placed worse than fourth across the last five events they’ve attended, which includes a silver medal from NA Spring Cup and a runner-up finish from the Spring Invitational, where they lost against FURIA.

SSG consistently perform well, but they always fail to make that final push. Consistency is important to win big events, but you also need that X Factor to go all the way, and for now, it seems like Spacestation Gaming don’t have it.

FURIA (11.00) are another team that could go all the way. They defeated Spacestation Gaming in the finals of the Spring Invitational, and have shown good results in previous big events, so perhaps they should be ranked above SSG. But FURIA haven’t been as consistent, so I’m ranking them as the second-best team from NA.

FURIA can have their moments and be very dangerous, but there’s one big reason why I am not too excited about betting on them. To win the whole thing, FURIA will have to defeat European teams (Vitality, BDS, KC, and Team Liquid), which won’t be easy.

The gap between EU and NA is big and has reached a point where you can objectively say that European teams are much stronger.

Verdict

Betting on the outright favourites is not always a good choice, but for this event, it’s hard to pass on Team Vitality at 4.33. They’re by far the most dominant team from Europe, which is the strongest RLCS region, so it’s fair to say that a lot will have to go wrong for the Bees to not at least make the finals.

On that note, Team BDS seem like a great candidate to join Vitality on the big stage. This is the same core that won the RLCS World Championship in August, and they’ve looked very good throughout the season. We’re getting 4.50 on Team BDS reaching the final, which is an excellent offer, and worth a bet.

I anticipate a Vitality vs Team BDS finals in Boston, with Spacestation potentially finishing third. Some might want to consider a smaller wager on SSG reaching the finals, which can easily happen, but I’ll stick with my initial predictions.
