Team Liquid and The MongolZ will face off on Sunday, March 23, in the lower bracket semifinal of Group B at BLAST Open Spring 2025 in what promises to be an entertaining affair, but one that has a clear favourite.

Despite dropping down to the lower bracket, The MongolZ have shown good performances over the first two rounds, maybe less so against M80, but they came close to defeating Natus Vincere. Team Liquid, on the other hand, suffered a rough loss to Eternal Fire and have not had the best display against Imperial.

As a team who continue to struggle and seem to lack any form of consistency, Liquid are not to be trusted against a tier-1 squad. And while MongolZ definitely have a lot more to prove, this is a match they should not be losing.

Team Liquid clawed their way to Group B lower bracket semifinals with a loss against Eternal Fire (0-2) and a 2-1 victory against Imperial Esports, who Liquid beat with 13-4 on Dust 2, 11-13 on Nuke, and 13-5 on Anubis.

While Liquid dominated on Dust 2 and Anubis, their performance on Nuke left a lot to be desired. The same can be said for the two maps against Eternal Fire (Dust 2 and Anubis), which ended 7-13 in favour of the Turkish squad.

Those are not very inspiring results and do not suggest that Liquid are actually a top-tier team. While they might seem on paper, their performances at BLAST Open Spring 2025 and previous events would not indicate it

The MongolZ Form

The MongolZ entered BLAST Open Spring 2025 as dark horses to make a deep run, and they've yet to prove otherwise. While the Mongolian squad did not look took convincing in their opener against M80 (2-1), they had a solid showing against Natus Vincere in the upper bracket semifinal.

MongolZ lost the series but came just a couple of rounds away from completing a reverse sweep, with 13-1 on Inferno and 13-16 on Mirage. A solid display and a good indication of what MongolZ are capable of.

Even though they are not one of the main candidates to win BLAST Open Spring 2025, MongolZ are one of the few teams who can beat anyone and will consistently put up a fight against the top dogs.

Team Liquid v The MongolZ

Team Liquid have yet to show anything this season that would suggest they are a legitimate threat for big event titles. While MongolZ might not fit that bill either, they have been more consistent and have produced better results when faced with other elite teams.

No matter how you look at it, this is MongolZ's game to lose, and unless they shoot themselves in the foot, they should come out ahead without any major issues.
