Esports betting sites have Evil Geniuses priced as 1.57 favourites to defeat FUT Esports, who enter the VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo match as 2.25 underdogs. The offered betting odds are mostly based on the teams’ performances through the regular season; however, they’ve not played in the same region, so it’s tough to compare their record at face value.

  • Evil Geniuses are expected to win despite hailing from a weaker region
  • FUT Esports have shown some promise this season
  • It should be an interesting clash between two evenly matched teams

Head to Head

Evil Geniuses and FUT Esports have never met before

FUT Esports Form

FUT Esports had a very up-and-down run through the VCT 2023 EMEA League regular season, in which the Turkish squad finished in fifth place with a 5-4 record and an 11-8 map differential. They had their moments and looked good even when faced with stronger teams from the region, but they came out short in the end, granted there’s more to this team than just their final placement.

In VCT 2023 EMEA League playoffs, FUT Esports didn’t disappoint. They defeated Giants (2-0), then narrowly lost to Fnatic (1-2), defeated Team Vitality (2-1), and Natus Vincere (2-0), but came out short in the lower bracket finals, where FUT got eliminated by the eventual EMEA champions, Team Liquid (0-3).

Overall, FUT Esports showed a lot, and even in their losses, FUT rarely looked bad. Now the question is whether they’ll translate all that to the international stage.

Evil Geniuses Form

Evil Geniuses finished VCT 2023 Americas League regular season in sixth place with a 4-5 record and a 10-12 map differential, which isn’t terrible, but far from great. However, their final record doesn’t do EG justice.

Evil Geniuses had a rough start to the year as they managed just one win from their first five games, before EG found momentum in Week 5 and secured three wins from their last four games against Leviatan, Sentinels, and MiBR, while their only loss came against NRG Esports (0-2) in the final week of the regular season.

In the playoffs, Evil Geniuses took revenge on NRG Esports in the first round (2-1), then defeated Cloud9 (2-0), and forced the eventual champions, LOUD, to three maps (1-2), but unfortunately, lost against NRG Esports (1-3) in the lower bracket finals.

Verdict

According to the offered Valorant esports betting odds, Evil Geniuses should defeat FUT Esports more times than not, but it’s hard to find a good reason to believe that. Even though Evil Geniuses had their moments in VCT 2023 Americas League playoffs, where they only lost against two eventual champions, it’s not like FUT Esports underperformed in the EMEA league.

We can also make an argument that the EMEA League is stronger than the Americas League, so I don’t have a problem valuing FUT Esports’ achievements this season higher than EG’s. This looks like it should be a close and competitive series, so I’ll gladly side with the European representatives at plus money.
