G2 Esports entered VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025 as one of the leading candidates to win the trophy, but they got stopped in the first round by the surging Paper Rex. While that hiccup bumped G2 down to the lower bracket, one poor showing does not take away from their accomplishments this season.

XLG Esports lost their first game of the tournament badly, showcasing just how much weaker they are after the recent roster change. And if XLG failed to make it past Sentinels, they're unlikely to find much more success against G2.

G2 Esports Form

G2 Esports started VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025 with a rough 0-2 loss against Paper Rex. It was a solid effort from G2, but they ended up short by a few rounds, losing Split 10-13 and Lotus 11-13.

Despite the loss, trent played well, ending the series with the server's highest 1.28 rating. Meanwhile, leaf and JonahP averaged 0.81, and alongside valyn failed to produce a positive rating.

Even though G2 Esports lost the series, they remain one of the main favourites to win the tournament, and a minor hiccup after a very long break does not take away from the fact that G2 Esports are one of the strongest VALORANT esports teams in the world.

XLG Esports Form

XLG Esports proved no match for Sentinels in the first round of the VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025 playoffs and lost the game 0-2.

It was a fairly one-sided game, ending in 13-6 on Sunset and Lotus as XLG struggled to find any traction against VCT Americas no.2 seeded team.

Seeing XLG perform as poorly is hardly surprising, as they had to make a last-minute change and bring in Midi as a replacement. However, with little preparation time, the roster seemed not to have managed to gel together, and Midi in particular did not perform well.

The newest addition ended the series with a 0.48 performance rating – the lowest on the roster. Viva also did not have the greatest start to the series, posting 0.27 on Sunset.

G2 Esports v XLG Esports

While both teams have lost their first games of the tournaments, XLG Esports looked far worse. The contrast in their performances from the regular season and now, after the roster change, is massive, and as shown, XLG are not nearly as solid as they were last month.

G2 Esports slipped against Paper Rex, which was not the best start to the tournament. However, they are still one of the most successful VALORANT teams in the world, with enough talent to complete a lower-bracket run and claim the title.
