Gen.G Esports kicked off the VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025 playoff campaign with a 2-1 victory against Fnatic, only to fall against the high-flying Wolves Esports (0-2) in the upper bracket semifinals.

It was a very entertaining game in which both teams stepped up and proved they came to play. But despite being viewed as firm favourites, Gen.G could not stop the Chinese squad, who came out ahead with 13-11 on Split and 13-9 on Sunset.

It was more of an indication of Wolves Esports' good form than Gen.G's struggles. However, losing a game like that likely has hit the team's morale at least a little bit.

After getting pushed into the lower bracket by VCT Pacific representatives, Paper Rex (0-2) in the upper bracket quarterfinals, G2 Esports rolled over the unconvincing XLG Esports with 13-3 on Icebox and 13-8 on Haven. It was a dominant win, but against a weaker opponent, so there is not much to take away from that series.

G2 Esports are a good VALORANT esports team, but they've not been properly tested, which puts a question mark above them and their chances to win on Tuesday.

Gen.G Esports had a very good start to the playoff stage, beating Fnatic. Yet they could not stop Wolves Esports.

Both teams suffered upset losses, and the eye test proves they're evenly matched.
