FURIA had a somewhat decent start to the stage and showed some fight against G2 Esports, but a few too many mistakes cost them the series, which FURIA lost 0-2. NRG had an equally as unsuccessful start to the stage, as they went down 1-2 to Cloud9.

Even though NRG lost their first game of the stage, they are billed as strong favourites to defeat FURIA, which makes sense on paper. However, they also had a few shaky moments last week, so it is not beyond the realms of possibility that this will be a close game.

NRG started VCT 2025: Americas Stage 1 with a 1-2 loss to Cloud9 on the opening day of the stage. It was a weird game, but NRG were clearly the second-best team on the day.

They picked up Lotus 13-6 but proved far less effective on Fracture (5-13) and Pearl (9-13), and they did not show anything remarkable across the last two maps. In their defence, it was the first match after a long break, so I would feel optimistic about NRG's chances to bounce back.

Still, it is also unfair to be overly optimistic about NRG finding their stride so soon.

FURIA Form

FURIA were not expected to do particularly well in the first week of VCT 2025: Americas Stage 1, and they lived up to those expectations with a 0-2 loss against the defending champions, G2 Esports.

Despite the loss, the Brazilians had an excellent start to the series. They took an 8-0 lead on Lotus and entered the halftime 9-3 up before letting their foot off the gas and allowing G2 Esports to close it out 13-10 with 9-1 in the second half.

Ascent was not as close, but FURIA again showed some fight before they ran out of steam in the second half and lost the map 7-13.

Havoc had a solid day on Ascent, and pryze shone the brightest on Lotus with a 1.17 performance rating, so there are some reasons to feel optimistic about FURIA. However, FURIA still have to prove they can close out maps and not choke massive leads.

Verdict

NRG v FURIA

FURIA had a few questionable moments against G2 Esports in the first week of VCT 2025: Americas Stage 1, which is worrying, but it is not fair to make any conclusions base on one series.

At the very least FURIA proved they can compete against the strongest team in the region, and that's a good enough reason to believe they can take a bite out of NRG.
