Sentinels entered VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025 as one of the main candidates to win the tournament, and they're on the right path to do just that. The VCT Americas no.2 seed kicked off the Masters event with a 2-0 sweep of XLG Esports, who they bested in a very dominant fashion.

Sentinels won the game 13-6 on Lotus and Sunset and were clearly the better team on the day. However, while Sentinels played well, they also had it easy, as XLG Esports are not a particularly strong team to begin with, and they're playing with a new player.

The VCT Americas representatives' road saw them go through the Chinese gauntlet, having beaten Wolves Esports and Bilibili Gaming in the first stage. While an impressive feat, it is also more than fair to say that Sentinels have not been properly tested.

Paper Rex Form

Paper Rex qualified for the VALORANT Masters Toronto Playoffs by beating Team Heretics and Team Liquid in the Swiss Stage, where they had to admit defeat to their regional rivals, Gen.G Esports.

After a promising start to the event, Paper Rex added a massive 2-0 sweep of the tournament favourites, G2 Esports, in the first round of the playoffs. They beat the VCT Americas champions 13-10 on Split and 13-11 on Lotus, leaving a very strong statement.

The whole team performed well on the day, especially PatMen, who posted a 1.14 rating, ahead of f0rsaken with 1.07 and Jinggg in third at 1.03.

Verdict

Sentinels v Paper Rex

Sentinels were considered a much better team than Paper Rex in the pre-tournament markets. But after seeing Paper Rex play in the Swiss Stage and in the first round of the playoffs, I have no issues saying that Paper Rex are just as strong, if not stronger, than Sentinels.

The main issue with Senitnels is that they've yet to be properly tested, having faced only Bilibili Gaming, Wolves Esports, and the weakened XLG Esports. Meanwhile, Paper Rex demolished Team Heretics and humiliated the tournament favourites, G2 Esports.

This can turn out to be a competitive game, but I would much rather be on the side of Paper Rex at these numbers.
