Team Liquid and Gentle Mates will face off on Friday, March 28, in the opening week of VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) 2025 Stage 1, marking their first meeting of the season.

Team Liquid looked very solid during the Kickoff event, but decided to make a roster change, bringing in SerialKiller as a replacement for kamyk, who left for Gentle Mates. This change does raise some questions and concerns, as Liquid have yet to play with the latest addition.

On paper, Liquid still look like the better team, but if we see the same performances from kamyk to what he showed in the latter stages of the Kickoff tournament, Gentle Mates could prove to be a feisty team that will not go down without a fight.

Team Liquid looked great early into the season. They finished VCT 2025: EMEA Kickoff in second place, coming one map short of beating Team Vitality in the grand finals. However, they could not translate that form to VALORANT Masters Bangkok 2025, where Liquid placed fifth-sixth.

In a bid to find more success in Stage 1, Liquid opted to make some changes and parted ways with kamyk and replaced him with a promising young talent, SerialKiller.

We have yet to see SerialKiller play at a VCT level, so he is somewhat unknown. But for him to replace Kamyk, SerialKiller has to be a good addition.

Earlier this month, Team Liquid parted ways with Maks "kamyk" Rychlewski and replaced him with Maikls "SerialKiller" Zdanovs.

Gentle Mates Form

Gentle Mates ended VCT 2025: EMEA Kickoff in seventh-eighth place after beating Apeks (2-0) and KOI (2-1) and losing to Team Heretics (1-2) and Fnatic (0-2). While not the most inspiring finish, Gentle Mates did show some life in their four fixtures.

For Stage 1, Gentle Mates added kamyk and with that, bolstered their roster with one of the top-performing players of the Kickoff event. While we have yet to see the new lineup in action, Gentle Mates look stronger heading into Stage 1 and they field a former Liquid player, who will be out for blood against his former team.

Verdict

Team Liquid v Gentle Mates

Team Liquid should not be losing games like this, but there are some questions about this roster, namely how quickly will the latest signing fit in and how will Liquid do with a changed lineup.

The big question is how Liquid will distribute the roles between the players and how it will work out. With so many questions about how Liquid will approach swapping out players to new positions to fit SerialKiller in the roster, I would not trust them to perform as well as some might expect.

Gentle Mates will have a mountain to climb on Friday, but they look solid enough for me to believe they can take a map.
