Adelaide United vs Melbourne City Predictions
Adelaide United have drawn their last three matches and meet a Melbourne City side who have struggled to beat the Reds recently. I’m backing this match to end all-square.
- Adelaide United have drawn 4 of their last 5 matches (A-League).
- These two sides have drawn in 3 of their last 7 meetings (A-League).
- Melbourne City have not beaten Adelaide United in their last 3 meetings (A-League).
Head to Head
There have been 34 meetings between the two sides. Adelaide holds a slight 14-11 record, with nine of these matches ending in draws.
The last meeting between these sides ended in a 2-2 draw. City jumped out to a two-goal lead after midfielder Adrian Luna and striker Jamie Maclaren scored in the first half.
Adelaide then hit back with two goals in 13 minutes through forwards Kristian Opseth and Ben Halloran to ensure the draw.
Adelaide United Form
Adelaide United picked up a point against Western United in their opening match in a scoreless draw.
The Reds had two chances cleared off the line either side of half-time, with strikers Tomi Juric and Halloran unlucky not to score.
Goalkeeper James Delianov also starred on debut. The ex-Melbourne City custodian made four crucial saves to ensure his side walked away with a point.
Adelaide have now drawn their last three A-League matches.
Adelaide United Injuries & Team News
Adelaide boss Carl Veart did not rush Spanish import Javi Lopez into the side for the opening match. He may still opt to leave him out of the squad for the opening few weeks.
Defender George Timotheou was also left out of the squad and may still have to wait to make his debut. Veart was impressed with his defensive pairing of Jordan Elsey and Michael Jakobsen so changes to the back four are unlikely.
Striker Al-Hassan Toure is still out with a foot injury and is expected to return later in the new year.
Melbourne City Form
Melbourne City edged out Brisbane Roar away from home in the opening round. A 52nd minute goal from midfielder Connor Metcalfe proved the difference in a tight affair.
Despite holding on to record a 1-0-win, City had to do it the hard way after midfielder Luna was sent off in the 69th minute.
Goalkeeper Tom Glover was forced into several late saves as Brisbane looked to make the most of having an extra man.
City now find themselves unbeaten in five of their last six matches.
Melbourne City Injuries & Team News
City will be without Luna for the one week after the Uruguayan was sent off against Brisbane. French midfielder Florin Berenguer is the most likely replacement.
Right-back Nathaniel Atkinson will also miss the match with a hamstring injury.
