Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne City Predictions

While Brisbane are inside the top six, their form has been inconsistent. Melbourne City lifted the premier’s plate and do not look like slowing down.

I’m backing over 2.5 goals and City to win.

  • Brisbane Roar have seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 5 matches (A-League).
  • Brisbane have lost their last 3 matches against Melbourne City (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have won 4 of their last 7 away matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have won 5 of their last 6 matches (A-League).

Head to Head

Melbourne City have a 17-11 advantage in the head-to-head with six draws in 34 encounters.

Their last meeting saw City escape with a 3-2 win at home. Captain Scott Jamieson and midfielder Connor Metcalfe scored two goals early before the Roar levelled the score.

Defender Scott Galloway would give City the decisive goal with a 77th minute volley.

Brisbane Roar Form

Brisbane is in the hunt to qualify for the finals after they reinvigorated their season.

After previously defeating Central Coast 4-0, the Roar failed to beat them in the rematch and were held to a goalless draw. Brisbane were perhaps lucky to come away with the point after the Mariners fired 20 attempts on goal.

Luck ran out for the Roar the following week as they went down narrowly to Adelaide away from home. After conceding in the 23rd minute, Brisbane were unable to find an equaliser as they went down 1-0.

A 2-1 win against Newcastle followed to get the Roar back on track. Japanese midfielder Riku Danzaki opened the scoring before midfielder James O’Shea netted the winner in the 73rd minute.

Brisbane Roar Injuries & Team News

Defender Tom Aldred is out with a hamstring injury.

Melbourne City Form

City have won five of their last six matches and were rewarded by clinching their inaugural premiership.

A Jamie Maclaren brace saw City storm home to a 4-1 victory against Adelaide. Captain Scott Jamieson and defender Scott Galloway were also among the goalscorers.

City were then held to a 2-2 draw by Wellington Phoenix. After conceding early, Japanese midfielder Naoki Tsubaki levelled the score before Maclaren gave his side the lead.

Wellington would hit back with a late penalty to ensure the points were shared.

City then clinched the premier’s plate with a 1-0 win over Central Coast. Winger Craig Noone’s goal was enough as City lifted just their second piece of silverware.

Melbourne City Injuries & Team News

Defender Nathaniel Atkinson is out with a hamstring injury, while striker Andrew Nabbout remains sidelined with an adductor problem.
