Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne City Preview

Brisbane Roar got their first point of the season last week courtesy of a dramatic 4-4 draw against Macarthur last week. Another goalfest is predicted with Melbourne City backed for victory.

Head To Head

City prevailing 8-1 on December 28, 2023 last season before Brisbane returned the favour with a 5-1 triumph on February 10, 2024.

Brisbane Roar Form

It's been a nightmare start to the season for Brisbane, who already find themselves eight points off the top six heading into Round 7.

The Roar were staring down the barrel of five straight defeats to open the season, but a late own goal saw them salvage a point in an insane 4-4 draw against Macarthur in Campbelltown.

Brisbane went 2-0 up in the opening half through a double from Thomas Waddingham, but they needed two own goals from Macarthur in the second-half as the hosts responded with four goals themselves.

Previous defeats against Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne Victory and Adelaide mean the Roar remain anchored to the bottom of the ladder, with just one point to show for their efforts.

Brisbane Roar Team News

Neicer Acosta remains in doubt with a leg injury, but otherwise the Roar have a full squad to choose from for this clash.

Melbourne City Form

It's been an inconsistent start to the season for City, but their cause hasn't been helped by various injury problems to key players, including Marco Tilio and Andrew Nabbout.

Nevertheless, City are sitting in fifth spot on the ladder with three wins from their five games - and three points here against the last-placed team would get them moving in the right direction.

City have earned wins over three of the teams tipped to struggle this term in the Newcastle Jets, Perth Glory and Western United.

City come into this clash on the back of defeat after suffering a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to the Wanderers last week.

Melbourne City Team News

Tilio and Nabbout are out with long-term injuries, while Harrison Shillington is questionable with an ankle injury.

Verdict

The Roar have been involved in some entertaining games lately, so I'm backing both teams to score as the best bet.

City have a growing casualty ward, but they remain the superior side. They can return to the winners circle against the last-placed side here.
