Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory Predictions

Brisbane Roar have won their last 3 matches and host a Victory outfit which has looked uncomfortable in defence.

This fixture has seen plenty of goals in the last few encounters. I’m tipping BTTS and over 2.5 goals, with a Brisbane win having value.

  • Brisbane Roar have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 8 matches (A-League).
  • Brisbane Roar have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 10 matches against Melbourne Victory (A-League).
  • Dylan Wenzel-Halls has scored 4 goals in his last 3 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 8 matches against Brisbane Roar (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Melbourne Victory have a 22-17 advantage over the Roar in the head-to-head, with nine draws in 48 encounters.

A second-half blitz from the Roar saw them ease past the Victory in their previous meeting. Second half goals to defender Macaulay Gillesphey and forward Dylan Wenzel-Halls kicked off Brisbane’s season with a 3-1 win in Melbourne.

Brisbane Roar Form

Brisbane have transformed under new boss Warren Moon and sit on top of the table after four matches.

The Roar have won all three matches since their 1-0 defeat in the opening round against Melbourne City. A 3-1 win against the Victory was followed by a 2-1 win away to the Newcastle Jets, with Japanese import Riku Danzaki scoring his debut goal.

Their last match saw them record another 3-1 win, this time against Adelaide United at home. Wenzel-Halls starred with a brace, while midfielder Jay O’Shea also netted his first of the new year.

Brisbane Roar Injuries & Team News

Brisbane will once again be without first-choice goalkeeper Jamie Young who is expected to miss several weeks with a knee injury.

Wenzel-Halls has started 2021 with a bang. The 23-year-old has scored four goals in his last three matches, including a brace in last week's win over Adelaide.

Melbourne Victory Form

After two straights defeat to start the season, Melbourne Victory have shown promise in their last two matches.

A late brace from attacker Jake Brimmer saw the Victory come from behind and steal the win against Perth Glory to kick off their season.

The Victory then desperately hung on against a fast finishing Western United to record a 0-0 draw in the derby. Western United had two goals disallowed by the VAR in that match and even struck the crossbar twice.

Despite positive results in the last two matches, Victory’s defence still needs plenty of work. The club have only kept the one clean sheet in their last ten matches.

Melbourne Victory Injuries & Team News

Victory’s slow start can be linked to several injuries to key players.

Striker Robbie Kruse was rested against Western United and is expected to start against Brisbane, with the Socceroo coming back from a long injury.

Former Middlesbrough striker Rudy Gestede is still out with a hamstring, while winger Callum McManaman will also miss with an ankle injury.
