Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne City Predictions

Central Coast Mariners have seen 15 goals scored in their last three encounters against Melbourne City. With both sides showing promising signs up front this season, I’m backing BTTS and over 2.5 goals with City to continue their impressive record over the Mariners.

  • Central Coast have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 7 home matches (A-League).
  • Central Coast have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches against Melbourne City (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have won their last 3 matches against Central Coast (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 7 against Central Coast (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen over 3.5 goals in their last 3 matches against Central Coast (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 6 away matches (A-League).

Head to Head

Melbourne City have an 11-10 advantage in the head-to-head, with seven draws in 28 matches.

Melbourne City have won their last three against the Mariners, including a 4-2 win at Central Coast in their most recent meeting. Jamie Maclaren starred with a hattrick for City, while Mariners forward Jordan Murray netted a brace.

Central Coast Mariners Form

Central Coast sit second after an impressive start to the season but have lost two of their last three.

The Mariners bounced back from their 1-0 loss to Western Sydney to upset reigning champions Sydney FC the following week. An own goal from Sydney’s Ben Warland gave the Mariners the lead before striker Alou Kuol’s 74th minute goal ensured the victory.

Although the Mariners failed to back this up the next week. Central Coast suffered a 2-1 defeat at home against a winless Wellington Phoenix, which saw them miss the opportunity to finish the round on top of the table.

Central Coast Mariners Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Oliver Bozanic received treatment on his shoulder just before half-time in the last match. Despite playing out the rest of game, the 32-year-old may be rested due to the short turnaround between matches.

The Mariners have also lost midfielder Daniel Bouman to injury. The 22-year-old was forced off with a hamstring injury against Wellington and will most likely miss this match.

Melbourne City Form

City have had an ambivalent start to the season sitting at two wins and two losses after four rounds.

A 2-0 loss away to Adelaide was followed by a dramatic 2-1 win at home against Western United. Maclaren’s 85th minute goal broke the deadlock, with City coming from behind after trailing early in the first half.

Though this momentum quickly came to a halt, with last season’s Grand Finalists going down 3-1 to Perth Glory at home. The Glory made City pay in the second half, with the home side hitting the post twice early on.

Melbourne City Injuries & Team News

Fullback Nathaniel Atkinson made his return off the bench after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Captain Scott Jamieson spent the entirety of the loss to Perth on the bench after coming back from suspension. Given the short turnaround, he will be in contention to return to the starting line-up.
