Melbourne City vs Macarthur Predictions

Melbourne City come into this clash well rested after a week off. They have plenty of goalscoring options and will look to exploit a vulnerable Macarthur defence.

I’m tipping City to win and over 2.5 goals with value on over 3.5 goals.

  • Melbourne City have seen over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen over 3.5 goals in 5 of their last 9 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have won 6 of their last 10 matches (A-League).
  • Macarthur have seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).

Head to Head

Melbourne City have a 1-0 record in the head-to-head with one draw in two encounters.

Their last meeting ended in a 1-1 stalemate. City’s Conor Metcalfe opened the scoring with his 59th minute strike, though this lead was short lived after Macarthur forward Michael Ruhs equalised soon after.

Melbourne City Form

After clinching the premier’s plate with three games to spare and losing players to international duty, City fielded a weaker side in the last few matches.

The premiers went down 3-0 away to Brisbane Roar, with City only having themselves to blame after conceding two penalties.

A 1-1 draw against rivals Melbourne Victory followed. City took the lead after Victory defender Nick Ansell headed in an own goal.

Substitute Anthony Lesiotis then had the ball in the back of the net, only to be ruled out by the VAR. The Victory would then equalise deep into stoppage time.

City’s last match of the regular season ended in a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle at home. Young forward Stefan Colakovski opened the scoring in the ninth minute before the Jets clawed their way back to end up winning the game.

Melbourne City Injuries & Team News

Golden boot winner Jamie Maclaren and defender Curtis Good are unavailable due to having to quarantine after returning from international duty.

Macarthur Form

Macarthur did just enough to qualify for the finals in their inaugural campaign.

The Bulls held on against a fast finishing Western United to lock up sixth spot with a 2-1 win.

Spanish midfielder Markel Susaeta and captain Mark Milligan scored first half goals, before they forced to desperately defend as Western finished strongly.

With sixth spot already wrapped up, the Bulls rested several stars which saw them go down 3-0 to Wellington at home.

Their first-ever final the following week was a successful one as they defeated Central Coast 2-0. Despite losing defender James Meredith to a red card, the Bulls struck twice in extra time to claim a historic win.

Striker Charles M’Mombwa scored in the 93rd minute before Ruhs sealed the win with a 120th minute goal.

The Bulls will be without Meredith due to suspension.
