Melbourne City vs Newcastle Jets Predictions

Newcastle sit bottom of the A-League and face a City side in red-hot form with striker Jamie Maclaren a certainty to win the golden boot. I’m tipping City to win and Maclaren to score.

  • Melbourne City have won 8 of their last 11 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 matches (A-League).
  • City’s Jamie Maclaren has scored 19 goals in his last 15 matches (A-League).
  • Newcastle Jets have lost 8 of their last 10 matches (A-League).
  • Newcastle Jets have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).

Head to Head

Melbourne City have a 16-13 advantage in the head-to-head with four draws in 33 matches.

Their last meeting saw the Jets upset last season’s runner-up with a 1-0. Newcastle striker Valentino Yuel scored the decisive goal in the 40th minute.

Melbourne City Form

Melbourne City are unbeaten in their last four matches and sit atop of the A-League table.

A 98th minute penalty converted by striker Jamie Maclaren saw City rescue a point in a 1-1 draw against reigning champions Sydney FC.

Maclaren would then score five the following week as City trounced rivals Melbourne Victory 7-0 in the derby.

A 1-1 draw with Macarthur followed with midfielder Connor Metcalfe netting a rare goal after an impressive build up.

Melbourne City Injuries & Team News

Right back Nathaniel Atkinson is out with a hamstring injury with the young defender expected to miss the rest of the season.

Newcastle Jets Form

Newcastle are ten matches without a win and sit at the bottom of the table.

The Jets snapped a seven game losing streak by holding Perth Glory to a 1-1 draw. After conceding in the 61st minute, striker Roy O’Donovan equalised just six minutes later from the penalty spot.

O’Donovan was on target in Newcastle’s next match as they shared the points with Macarthur in a 2-2 draw. Midfielder Steven Ugarkovic also scored for the Jets.

That run came to an end as the Jets went down 2-0 away to Western United.

Newcastle Jets Injuries & Team News

Defender Nigel Boogard made his long-awaited return from injury in the loss to Western United.

Midfielder John Koutroumbis also returned from a knee injury and will be in contention to feature once again.
