Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar Predictions

Melbourne Victory come into the new season with large expectations to perform. I’m backing a draw against a solid Brisbane outfit who were unlucky not walk away with a point in their last match.

  • Melbourne Victory have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 A-League matches.
  • Brisbane Roar have not won in their last 4 A-League matches.
  • Brisbane are winless in 6 of their last 7 against the Victory in Melbourne.

Head to Head

These two sides have met 47 times with Melbourne Victory holding a 22-16 record. They have played out nine draws.

Brisbane Roar picked up the points in a 2-1 win the last time these two sides met in the Sydney hub. Veteran forward Scott McDonald and midfielder Matt Ridenton scored for the Roar, while Andrew Nabbout scored a late consolation goal for the Victory.

Melbourne Victory Form

The Victory surprised many when they qualified for the AFC Champions League Round of 16. A 2-1 win over FC Seoul courtesy of goals from winger Marco Rojas and new signing Jake Brimmer set up a clash with Ulsan Hyundai.

Despite going down 3-0 to the eventual tournament winners in the Round of 16, the Victory showed plenty of promise in defeat.

In addition to continuing this form, they will also be looking to rectify a poor finish to last season. The Victory lost seven of their last eight league matches and recorded their lowest ever finish since the 2011/12 season.

Melbourne Victory Injuries & Team News

A flurry of A-League debuts are expected for the Victory this week. Former Blackburn Rovers forward Rudy Gestede is expected to make his first appearance after missing the AFC Champions League.

The 193cm striker signs from Middlesbrough and will line-up alongside fellow new recruits and Boro alumni Jacob Butterfield and defender Ryan Shotton.

The only injury concern for the Victory is striker Robbie Kruse. The Socceroo missed most of last season with a knee injury and will not be risked in this fixture.

Brisbane Roar Form

Brisbane’s start to the season did not go to plan. The Roar went down 1-0 to a 10 man Melbourne City at home.

It was an even affair with Brisbane finishing with an xG of 1.01 to City’s 0.96.

Striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls had Brisbane’s best chance in the 23rd minute, hooking is right footed attempt into the side netting early in the piece.

This loss extends Brisbane’s winless run in the A-League to four matches. Their 2019/20 season ended with a 1-0 loss in the elimination final against Western United.

Brisbane Roar Injuries & Team News

The Roar came away unscathed in their loss to Melbourne City and will come in with a fully fit squad.

Japanese midfielder Riku Danzaki impressed on debut, as did former Newcastle Jets forward Joey Champness in his first match for the club.

Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar Tips

What is the Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar best bet?

Both teams have struggled to win recently in the A-League. Brisbane have drawn two of their last four and have a poor record in Melbourne. The best bet is for this one to end in a draw.

Brisbane looked good last week but don’t have the best record in Melbourne. I’m tipping for his one to end in a 1-1 draw.
