The Mariners have dominated the derby lately, winning eight of the last 11 meetings - but the most-recent clash resulted in 2-2 draw in Gosford back in Round 17.

The Jets appeared as if they were making an unlikely late charge for the finals after putting together a seven-match unbeaten streak for the first time since 2005.

However, as has been the case at Newcastle for a decade now, inner turmoil at the club has caused results on the field to suffer, with respected head coach Rob Stanton deciding to leave at season's end due to the club's inability to provide basic resources.

Newcastle's performances have regressed over the last few weeks, including a poor 2-1 defeat at home against Wellington last week.

Central Coast Mariners Form

It's been a disappointing season for the Mariners after the club's stunning back-to-back Grand Final triumphs.

In saying that, it was always going to be near-impossible for a club like Central Coast to maintain dominance in the A-League, but they will be hoping to end the year on a positive note.

The Mariners haven't been too bad in their recent outings, drawing 2-2 away to league leaders Auckland and beating Perth Glory 3-1 before last week's 1-0 loss to in-form Melbourne City.
