Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory Predictions

Sydney FC have dominated this fixture in recent history. The Sky Blues are looking to jump into the top two and have strengthened their squad with the returning Adam Le Fondre up front.

I’m tipping Sydney to win and Le Fondre to score.

  • Sydney’s Adam Le Fondre has scored 4 goals in his last 6 matches (A-League).
  • Sydney FC have won 3 of their last 4 matches against Melbourne Victory to nil (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have lost 4 of their last 5 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have lost their last 7 matches to Sydney FC (A-League).

Head to Head

Sydney FC have a 20-16 advantage in the head-to-head with 19 draws in 55 encounters.

Their last meeting saw the Sky Blues record their seventh straight win in the Big Blue. Brazilian striker Bobo scored the all-important goal as his side went on to win 1-0.

Sydney FC Form

Sydney FC currently sit in third on the table, just one point behind second-placed Central Coast.

Despite striker Bobo and defender Alex Wilkinson scoring in the Sydney derby, the Sky Blues fell short in a 3-2 defeat to Western Sydney. Bobo had the chance to equalise but missed a penalty at a crucial time in the match.

Their next match saw them held by Newcastle in a 1-1 away from home. Sydney took the lead after Jets defender Nigel Boogard converted an own goal, before the home side equalised midway through the second half.

Sydney broke this winless run with a 1-0 victory over Western United in Ballarat. In his return to the Sky Blues, forward Adam Le Fondre converted from the penalty spot to help his side towards a much-needed win.

Sydney FC Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Calem Nieuwenhof will miss with a back injury, while left back Michael Zullo is no closer to a return after injuring his calf.

Melbourne Victory Form

Melbourne Victory have lost their last three matches and sit one point above bottom placed Newcastle.

Despite taking the lead against Macarthur through forward Elvis Kamsoba, two defensive errors saw the Bulls take full advantage and hand the Victory a 2-1 defeat.

The Victory responded with a spirited response against Perth but once again failed to make the most of opportunities. Striker Robbie Kruse missed a penalty, while defender Nick Ansell received a red card in another 2-1 defeat.

Their third straight loss came in their rematch against Macarthur, with the Victory going down 3-1 away from home. Kamsoba scored his second goal in three matches, but the Bulls proved too strong and outclassed the struggling side.

Melbourne Victory Injuries & Team News

Young forwards Brandon Lauton and Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio will both miss with groin injuries.

Winger Marco Rojas is still out with a broken ankle, while defender Ryan Shotton remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Defenders Nick Ansell and Adama Traore will also miss due to suspension.
