Head to Head

Wellington have an 18-15 record in the head-to-head with seven draws played in 40 meetings.

The two sides met only two weeks ago with the Phoenix upsetting the Mariners in Gosford.

Wellington captain Ulises Davila opened the scoring early but had this cancelled out by Alou Kuol’s equaliser right before half-time. The Phoenix would get the final laugh with striker Jaushua Sotirio scoring the winner in the 88th minute.

Wellington Phoenix Form

Based in Sydney due to travel restrictions with New Zealand, the first few weeks have been tough for the Phoenix.

A 2-1 loss against then bottom placed Newcastle Jets saw Wellington start the season without a win from their first three matches. Their fortunes quickly turned with a 2-1 win away to the in-form Central Coast.

Sotirio was the hero in this match with his 88th minute winner to guide the Phoenix to their first win in ten matches.

Wellington were unable to back up as they suffered their second 2-1 loss to Sydney FC this season in their last match. Davila managed to pull one back in the 93rd minute but it was too little too late.

Wellington Phoenix Injuries & Team News

After scoring the winner two weeks ago, Sotirio suffered a knee injury in training and is feared to miss up to six weeks.

In more positive news for the Phoenix, midfielder Reno Piscopo returned off the bench in the last match against Sydney. The 23-year-old was out with a calf injury and will be in contention to start against the Mariners.

Central Coast Mariners Form

Following their 2-1 defeat to the Phoenix, the Mariners have come from behind to win in their last two matches.

Trailing 2-0 to Melbourne City, the Mariners staged a major second half comeback to win the match 3-2. Midfielder Jaden Casella struck first for the side with his debut goal, Matt Simon converted a penalty in his 200th match and Daniel De Silva curled home the winner in the 80th minute to seal a famous win.

Central Coast were forced to do it all again when they fell 2-1 down to Western United just before half time. A four minute brace to the in-form Kuol flipped the script and saw the Mariners win 3-2 and return to the top of the table.

Central Coast Mariners Injuries & Team News

Midfielder Daniel Bouman returned off the bench in the last match after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The story of the season so far at the Mariners has been the rise of Alou Kuol. The 26-year-old has scored four goals in his last four games, including a winning double last week.
