Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City Predictions

Melbourne City bounced back from a three-game losing run last time out. Western Sydney, meanwhile, suffered a first loss in their last eight A-League games.

I'm keen to avoid the match result markets and concentrate on goals in this one. Over 2.5 and over 3.5 look likely, while Jamie Maclaren can be relied upon for goals.

  • Western Sydney Wanderers have seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).
  • Western Sydney Wanderers have seen over 3.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).
  • Western Sydney Wanderers have seen over 3.5 goals in 2 of their last 4 matches against Melbourne City (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have have seen over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen over 3.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City's Jamie Maclaren has scored 5 goals in his last 5 matches (A-League).

Head to Head

The Wanderers hold a 12-9 advantage in the head-to-head with five draws playing across the 26 meetings.

The last time they met ended in a 1-1 draw in early 2020. Western Sydney full back Tate Russell opened the scoring early before City’s golden boot winner Jamie Maclaren equalised soon after.

Western Sydney Wanderers Form

Western Sydney Wanderers suffered a first defeat in their last eight matches in the A-League on Saturday in a five-goal thriller.

A seven-game unbeaten run was ended in a 3-2 defeat at home to Adelaide United.

Carl Robinson's side were 2-0 down at the break and second-half goals from Bruce Kamou and Mitchell Duke were not enough to get anything from the game.

Prior to the loss, the Wanderers had started February with a 2-2 draw with Macarthur.

Western Sydney picked up a solid 2-0 win against Melbourne Victory before they were held to another 2-2 draw, this time by Wellington Phoenix.

Western Sydney Wanderers Injuries & Team News

Mitchell Duke's first goal since returning to the club on loan from Saudi Arabia could see the striker handed a start.

Bruce Kamou also scored from the bench and is pushing for a start.

Bernie Ibini, Jordan Mutch and James Troisi will also come into the frame for starting roles with Carl Robinson likely to make changes with a 72-hour turnaround from the defeat to Adelaide.

Melbourne City Form

Melbourne City put a three-game losing run behind them as they beat Sydney FC 3-2 last Tuesday.

Jamie Maclaren struck twice for Patrick Kisnorbo's side and Adrian Luna got the other to put City 3-0 up. Two late goals from Milos Ninkovic and Patrick Wood set up a tense finale.

City had lost 3-1 at home to Perth Glory, 3-2 away at Central Coast Mariners despite leading 2-0 in the first half and 1-0 away to Newcastle Jets.

The victory over Sydney FC, which was a rematch of last season's Grand Final, came after 16-day break following the lockdown in Melbourne halting City's season.

Melbourne City Injuries & Team News

Socceroos striker Andrew Nabbout made his return from injury in the win over Sydney FC.

Rostyn Griffiths also made a successful comeback as he slotted into the heart of the City defence.

After two appearances as a substitute, new Portuguese import Nuno Reis will come into the frame for a first start.
