Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City Predictions

Western Sydney have been incredibly consistent this season. They are unbeaten in six and have rarely failed to score in 2021. Although they host a City side they have failed to beat in recent years. I'm backing BTTS and a draw.

  • Western Sydney are unbeaten in their last 6 matches (A-League).
  • Western Sydney have drawn 3 of their last 5 matches (A-League).
  • Western Sydney have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 6 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne City are unbeaten in 5 of their last 6 against Western Sydney (A-League).

Head to Head

The Wanderers hold a 12-9 advantage in the head-to-head with five draws playing across the 26 meetings.

The last time they met ended in a 1-1 draw in early 2020. Western Sydney full back Tate Russell opened the scoring early before City’s golden boot winner Jamie Maclaren equalised soon after.

Western Sydney Wanderers Form

Western Sydney are unbeaten in their last six and are shaping up as one of the league’s most consistent teams.

After going down 1-0 to Macarthur earlier in the season, the Wanderers rectified this defeat in their second meeting with the Bulls last weekend.

Forced to come from behind twice, the Wanderers held on for a 2-2 draw. Midfielder Graham Dorrans lobbing the goalkeeper to score his debut goal, while forward Simon Cox equalised for the second time in the 71st minute.

Following these impressive performances, the Wanderers would get their win against an uninspiring Melbourne Victory at home. Dorrans opened the scoring from the spot, before substitute Kwame Yeboah’s 88th minute goal wrapped up the win.

Western Sydney Wanderers Injuries & Team News

Striker and former captain Mitchell Duke is still in quarantine after recently arriving from Saudi Arabia.

Ex-Cardiff midfielder Jordon Mutch is available to play after he completed quarantine a few weeks ago.

Defender Dylan McGowan will again miss due to a foot injury, while goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic has been placed on the club’s long-term injury and will not feature for a while.

Melbourne City Form

Melbourne City are in desperate need for points after a horror three weeks.

Despite hitting the post twice in the first half, City failed to take their chances against Perth Glory and went on to lose 3-1 at home.

This was followed by a 3-2 defeat away to Central Coast after leading 2-0 inside the first 30 minutes. Early goals to Maclaren and midfielder Adrian Luna had City flying before a second half collapse which saw the Mariners steal the win.

City’s last loss was perhaps their most disappointing. Last season’s runners-up went down 1-0 away to Newcastle and failed to score for the first time in three matches.

Melbourne City Injuries & Team News

Portuguese import Nuno Reis was fast-tracked into the team after several defenders were forced to miss last week’s match.

One of those defenders, Kerrin Stokes, will return from suspension, while defensive midfielder Rostyn Griffiths will miss another week due to injury.
