Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory Predictions

The Melbourne Victory need a response and need one quickly. They face a Wanderers outfit unbeaten in their last five and who have been quite prolific in-front of goal. I’m backing BTTS, with this one ending all-square.

  • Western Sydney have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches (A-League).
  • Western Sydney have drawn 3 of their last 4 matches (A-League).
  • Western Sydney are unbeaten in their last 5 matches (A-League).
  • Melbourne Victory have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 6 matches against Western Sydney (A-League).

Head to Head

Melbourne Victory have a 13-6 record against the Wanderers in the head-to-head with four draws in 23 meetings.

Western Sydney got a 2-1 win in their last meeting with midfielders Pirmin Schwegler and Jordan O’Doherty scoring.

Western Sydney Wanderers Form

The Wanderers are unbeaten in their last five though will be frustrated with three of their last four matches ending in draws.

After forward Nicolai Muller’s goal helped them to 1-0 win away to Central Coast, the Wanderers have drawn their last two matches against Newcastle and Macarthur respectively.

The match with Newcastle ended 1-1, with the Wanderers opening the scoring early though conceded in the 80th minute and were forced to share the points.

Their match against Macarthur was far more exciting. Western Sydney were forced to come from behind twice.

Ex-Cardiff midfielder Graham Dorrans and forward Simon Cox scored in the 2-2 draw which sees the Wanderers in fourth after six matches.

Western Sydney Wanderers Injuries & Team News

Former Cardiff midfielder Jordon Mutch is in contention to make his A-League debut.

Club captain Dylan McGowan will again miss with a foot injury, while goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic is still recovering from a shoulder injury.

Melbourne Victory Form

The Victory have crashed back down to earth after a promising few weeks.

An emphatic injury time win 2-1 win against Perth Glory, courtesy of a brace from midfielder Jake Brimmer got the Victory going in 2021. This was followed with a scoreless draw against Western United, which saw a return of confidence for the four-time champions.

Though this optimism was short lived as the Victory were humbled in a 5-2 defeat away to Brisbane Roar. The game was wrapped up by half-time as the Roar went into the break 4-2 ahead, with big questions now being asked of head coach Grant Brebner.

Melbourne Victory Injuries & Team News

Socceroo Robbie Kruse returned to the starting line-up and will more than likely keep his spot for this match.

Ex-Wigan winger Callum McManaman has returned to full training after recovering from an ankle injury and will be in contention to feature. Striker Rudy Gestede is still training individually and did not travel with the side.
