Western Sydney Wanderers vs Newcastle Jets Predictions

The Jets have been an exciting watch this season with their last four matches seeing BTTS. They meet a Wanderers outfit who too have seen BTTS regularly and are unbeaten in their last three. I’m backing BTTS with this one ending in a draw.

  • Western Sydney have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 7 matches (A-League).
  • Western Sydney have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 matches against the Newcastle Jets (A-League).
  • Newcastle Jets have seen BTTS in their last 4 matches (A-League).

Head to Head

Western Sydney have a 9-8 advantage over the Newcsatle Jets with 7 draws in 24 encounters.

Western Sydney walked away with a 2-1 win when these two sides met earlier in the season. Goals either side of half time from defenders Ziggy Gordon and Tate Russell wrapped up the win.

The Wanderers are unbeaten in their last two meetings with the Jets.

Western Sydney Wanderers Form

The Wanderers are currently on a three-match unbeaten run.

A 2-1 win away to the Jets was followed by a narrow 1-0 win away to the Central Coast, with German forward Nicolai Muller scoring the winner in the 83rd minute.

Their most recent match saw the Wanderers share the points with Sydney FC in 1-1 draw in the derby.

Despite conceding first from a controversial penalty, the Wanderers hit back minutes later through Socceroo James Troisi to ensure the points would be shared.

Western Sydney Wanderers Injuries & Team News

Ex-Cardiff City midfielder Jordon Mutch will be available for selection after completing his two-weeks in quarantine.

After weeks of speculation, forward Simon Cox has decided to remain in Sydney and not return to the UK for the birth of his first child. Cox will therefore not miss any of this A-League season.

Newcastle Jets Form

After four consecutive defeats, the Jets finally picked up their first win of the new campaign.

Aside from a 1-0 loss in round one to the Mariners, the Jets saw BTTS in their next three defeats against the Wanderers, Macarthur and Brisbane respectively.

But the Jets would finally get their win, defeating the Wellington Phoenix 2-1 away from home. Newcastle struck early with forward Valentino Yuel scoring in the eighth minute, before striker Roy O’Donovan doubled the side’s lead in the 51st minute.

Newcastle Jets Injuries & Team News

Newcastle come in with a fully fit squad for the second straight week.

The Jets are also still without a permanent coach nor an owner. Interim boss Craig Deans will continue to take charge until a new coach has been appointed.

Verdict

As disappointing as the Jets have been, they have had no issues scoring in recent weeks. The Wanderers meanwhile have also seen BTTS regularly this season and are unbeaten in their last two against the Jets.

I’m tipping BTTS with this one ending in a draw.
