Western are unbeaten in four of the last five A-League meetings, but the last two encounters in 2024 resulted in a 2-2 draw and a 2-1 triumph for Victory.

Western United were languishing near the bottom of the ladder all season last term and it wasn't a great start to the new season for Western as they failed to win any of their opening four games.

John Aloisi's side drew their first two games 1-1 against Wellington and the Western Sydney Wanderers before suffering back-to-back defeats against Melbourne City (1-0) and Adelaide United (2-1).

Western finally managed to secure their first victory of the season last week in Unite Round, easing past the struggling Perth Glory by a 3-1 scoreline, with Hiroshi Ibusuki scoring a double and 17-year-old Dylan Leonard also finding the back of the net.

Leonard will miss this game through suspension, while Tomoki Imai and Oliver Lavale rreturn from injury.

Melbourne Victory Form

Victory have suffered their fair share of heartbreak lately, losing both the A-League Grand Final last season to the Mariners after leading in the 89th minute and going down in the Australia Cup final to Macarthur.

Patrick Kisnorbo's side opened the new season with a 0-0 stalemate against Central Coast before reeling off three consecutive wins.

That began with a superb 3-1 derby triumph over Melbourne City before avenging their Australia Cup loss to Macarthur (2-1).

Victory went on to beat Brisbane Roar 2-0, but suffered their first loss of the season in Unite Round last week, going down 1-0 against Wellington Phoenix after conceding a late goal.
