Al Ahli vs Al Gharafa Predictions

Al Ahli are a reliable force in home matches, and a convincing win is expected on Monday.

I'm putting my stake on the hosts to claim victory in a game that should see a minimum of three goals scored.

Stats

  • Al Ahli won 6 of their last 7 matches (Champions League Elite)
  • Al Ahli have seen over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 home matches
  • Al Gharafa have seen over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 away matches (Champions League Elite)
  • Al Gharafa lost 4 of their last 5 away matches (Champions League Elite)

Head to Head

Al Ahli and Al Gharafa have met on six previous occasions. Al Gharafa claimed two wins, while Al Ahli picked up one victory. Each of their last three encounters finished deadlocked, including a 1-1 draw in their most recent meeting in 2018.

Al Ahli Form

Al Ahli's five-game winning run was halted on Friday as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat against Saudi League rivals Al Nassr. Jhon Duran's late goal ensured a first home reversal in nine for
Matthias Jaissle's side.

The Royals have enjoyed a brilliant run of form in the past three months, recording 12 wins while losing just twice (W12, D1, L2). Al Ahli scored an average of 2.4 goals per game in those 15 fixtures.

Already assured of their place in the final stages of the AFC Champions League Elite, Jassle's men remain unbeaten after seven league fixtures (W6, D1).

Al Ahli Team News

Al Ahli boss Jassle has no new selection issues ahead of Monday's contest in Jeddah. Injured duo Abdullah Otayf and Alexsander remain sidelined.

In-form forward Ivan Toney (six goals in his last six appearances) is set to spearhead the Al Ahli attack.

Al Gharafa Form

Al Gharafa arrive in Saudi Arabia unbeaten in six matches after a dramatic 2-1 win at Al Shamal in the Stars League (SL). Mohammed Muntari's stoppage-time goal secured a vital road victory for the Cheetahs.

Pedro Martins's side have been in good form domestically, remaining unbeaten in nine league fixtures since mid-October (W7, D2). Al Gharafa find themselves second in the SL, four points behind pacesetters Al Duhail.

The Qataris have been less impressive in the AFC Champions League. Al Gharafa sit seventh in the West League, picking up seven points from seven games played (W2, D1, L4).

Al Gharafa Team News

Head coach Martins has a handful of players unavailable for Monday's AFC Champions League tie. Mostafa Essam, Saifeldeen Fadlalla, Dame Traoré, Wajdi Kechrida and Rodrigo are expected to remain sidelined.

Veteran Spanish forward Joselu will likely lead the Cheetahs attack this week.

Verdict

Al Ahli should maintain their winning form with a high-scoring victory likely on Monday.

A home win with at least three goals scored is my top tip at Al Inma Bank Stadium at King Abdullah Sport City.
