Shandong Taishan lost both of their AFC Champions League road games. Kawasaki Frontale are the superior side here and I will back them to win HT-FT on Wednesday.

Stats

  • Kawasaki Frontale have won 5 of their last 7 home matches (AFC Champions League).
  • Shandong Taishan have lost 4 of their last 6 away matches.
  • Shandong Taishan have conceded in both halves in their last 3 away matches.

Head to Head

This is going to be the third head to head match between these two sides.

Kawasaki Frontale won the first meeting 3-2 in February, while Shandong Taishan won 4-2 one week later.

Kawasaki Frontale Form

Kawasaki Frontale have been inconsistent in this year’s AFC Champions League, claiming nine points from five matches and sit in 4th place on the East.

After kicking off the campaign with a 1-0 win at Ulsan, they suffered back to back defeats against Gwangju 1-0 and Shanghai Shenhua 2-0, but bounced back in the fourth round with a 3-1 win over Shanghai Port.

The Japanese side was also victorious in last week’s clash against Burinam United 3-0, scoring three times inside the last ten minutes through Sota Miura, Daiya Tono and Soma Kanda.

Kawasaki Frontale were involved in a nine-goal thriller last weekend in J1, beating Tokyo Verdy 5-4 with Shin Yamada stealing the spotlight with his hat-trick.

Kawasaki Frontale Injuries & Team News

Manager Toru Oniki can’t count on midfielder and captain Yasuto Wakizaka who is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Shandong Taishan Form

Shandong Taishan collected seven points from their five AFC Champions League Elite matches so far (two wins, two losses and a draw) and sit in 7th position on the Eastern standings.

They had a strong start with a 3-1 home win against Central Coast Mariners, but then started a three-game winless run which includes defeats to Vissel Kobe 2-1 and Pohang Steelers 4-2, while the match against Yokohama Marinos ended 2-2.

Kang-hee Choi’s side returned to winning ways last week with a 1-0 home victory against Johor Darul Ta’zim, Jose Zeca scoring the only goal in 68th minute.

Shandong Taishan also lost the Chinese FA Cup finals to Shanghai Port 3-1 in late November.

Shandong Taishan Injuries & Team News

There are no reported injuries or suspensions for Shandong Taishan.

Verdict

Shandong Taishan are conceding a lot of goals on the road, while Kawasaki Frontale bagged eight goals in last two games. I will back the hosts to win HT-FT and to find the net in both halves.
