Yokohama F. Marinos vs Bangkok United Predictions

Goals should be on the cards in a likely competitive second leg in Japan.

I'm backing Yokohama to win with over 2.5 goals scored, while I also like the chances of BTTS.

  • Yokohama F. Marinos have won 5 of their last 6 home matches
  • Yokohama F. Marinos have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 matches (ACL)
  • Bangkok United have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 7 matches (ACL)
  • Bangkok United have lost 3 of their last 5 away matches (ACL)

Head to Head

Yokohama F. Marinos and Bangkok United will meet for the third time in Wednesday's round of sixteen contest. Bangkok claimed a 2-2 draw in last week's first leg in Thailand. Yokohama edged to a 3-2 win in their only previous encounter in the J League Asian Challenge in 2017.

Yokohama F Marinos Form

After a six-week layoff, J-League runners-up Yokohama F Marinos returned to action with last week's share of the spoils in Bangkok. Despite taking a two-goal first-half lead, Harry Kewell's side were forced to settle for a draw after conceding an injury-time equaliser.

The Marinos have been in good form in this competition, with only one loss in their last six games played since October. Kewell's men also have a solid home record, with four wins from their last five at the Nissan Stadium.

Yokohama F Marinos Team News

Head coach Kewell remains unable to call on several first-team players for Wednesday's vital return leg. Ryuta Koike, Shinnosuke Hatanaka, Yuta Koike, Hijiri Kato, Katsuya Nagato and Kenta Inoue are all expected to remain absent. Ken Matsubara also misses out after he was sent off in stoppage time in Bangkok.

Bangkok United Form

Thai League champions Bangkok United arrive in Japan in good spirits after last week's comeback at the Thammasat Stadium. Mahmoud Eid's dramatic 92nd-minute goal kept this tie very much alive heading into Wednesday's return in Japan.

Placed second in the Thai League, Bangkok were held to a goalless draw at Sukhothai in their most recent outing on Saturday.

Totchtawan Sripan's side have impressed in this season's ACL. The Angels topped their group phase section with an impressive haul of 13 points. On their travels, Bangkok scored exactly two goals in all three away fixtures in Group F.

Bangkok United Team News

Bangkok boss Sripan could name the same XI that started last week's first leg in Thailand. Without a goal in his last five appearances, top scorer Willen Mota is still expected to lead the visitors' attack.

On the injury front, Vander Luis and Thitiphan Puangchan remain sidelined with long-term knee injuries.

Another entertaining contest is expected at the Nissan Stadium on Wednesday.

I expect Yokohama to have the edge in a high-scoring affair where both teams can get on the scoresheet.
