Namibia vs Zimbabwe Preview

Both Namibia and Zimbabwe have looked defensively solid in recent encounters. It should be a tight and tactical affair which I'm backing to end level.

  • Namibia have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Namibia have drawn 5 of their last 10 matches.
  • Zimbabwe have drawn their last 2 matches.
  • Zimbabwe have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 5 matches.

Head to Head

These two have met on eight occasions with Namibia winning six and Zimbabwe two. They last faced off in the 2022 COSAFA Cup, a game Namibia won 2-0.

Namibia Form

Namibia drew two home World Cup qualifiers in June. A 1-1 draw vs Liberia was followed by a goalless stalemate against Tunisia.

An understrength squad reached the COSAFA Cup final in July. Namibia were beaten 5-0 in the final by Angola with ten men.

In September, they made a poor start to AFCON qualifying. A 1-0 loss away to Cameroon was followed by a 2-1 home defeat to Kenya.

Namibia Injuries & News

Head coach Collin Benjamin has a settled squad as Vitapi Ngaruka has made his return to the national team in defence. Key striker Peter Shalulile has been suffering from a goal drought.

Attacker Rivaldo Prins, defender Petrus Kamati and midfielder Mbakondja Tjahikika have all received their first international call-ups.

Goalkeepers: Loydt Kazapua, Edward Maova, Kamaijanda Ndisiro
Defenders: Charles Hambira, Vitapi Ngaruka, Kennedy Amutenya, Ngero Katua, Ivan Kamberipa, Tuli Nashxiwa, Riaan Hanamub, Arend Abubakir, Petrus Kamati
Midfielders: Romeo Kasume, Odwin Eiseb, Oses Shidolo, Deon Hotto, Mbakondja Tjahikika, Paulus Amutenya, Aprocius Petrus
Forwards: Erastus Kulula, Betuel Muzeu, Rivaldo Prins, Peter Shalulile, Prins Tjiueza

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the AFCON in 2024 and their World Cup qualification hopes are in tatters (DDLL) after losing 2-0 to Lesotho and 3-1 to South Africa in June.

In July, they were knocked out in the Group Stage of the COSAFA Cup despite two wins in three matches.

In September’s FIFA break, new coach Michael Nees oversaw two 0-0 stalemates in AFCON qualifiers. Zimbabwe secured a draw away to Kenya and at home to Cameroon.

Zimbabwe Injuries & News

Warriors coach Michael Nees has recalled SuperSport United forward Terrence Dzvukamanja. Key midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is back in the squad after injury.

Polokwane City forward Douglas Mapfumo has been dropped. Veteran forward Khama Billiat and 39-year-old goalkeeper Washington Arubi are set to start.

Goalkeepers: Washington Arubi, Marley Tavaziva, Martin Mapisa
Defenders: Divine Lunga, Gerald Takwara, Brendan Galloway, Munashe Garananga, Godknows Murwira, Emmanuel Jalai, Teenage Hadebe, Jordan Zemura
Midfielders: Marvelous Nakamba, Marshall Munetsi, Andy Rinomhota, Tawanda Chirewa, Brian Banda, Richard Hachiro
Strikers: Tinotenda Kadewere, Khama Billiat, Prince Dube, Terrence Dzvukamanja, Tawanda Maswanhise, Daniel Msendami, Walter Musona
