Nigeria vs Sudan Predictions

Sudan have failed to score in seven of their last eight matches, and I don’t see that changing against Nigeria. The Super Eagles have star quality on the pitch so I’m backing them to win to nil.

  • Sudan have failed to score in 7 of their last 8 matches (all competitions).

Head to Head

Nigeria lead Sudan 5-1 in their six previous matches with no draws. They last met in 2018 where Nigeria beat Sudan 1-0 away.

Nigeria Form

Nigeria topped their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying group with four victories in six matches.

After beating Cape Verde 2-1 away, they lost 1-0 at home to Central African Republic. A 2-0 away success against the same opposition followed before winning 2-0 in Liberia. The Super Eagles drew 1-1 against Cape Verde at home in their final qualifier to secure top spot.

The Super Eagles opened their AFCON campaign with a terrific 1-0 win against Egypt. Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal of the match on the half hour mark.

Nigeria Squad & Team News

Augustine Eguavoen is without star attackers Victor Osimhen and Emmanuel Dennis are not at the tournament.

After scoring, Kelechi Iheanacho will certainly hold onto his spot. Leon Balogun misses AFCON in defence with Olisa Ndah from Orlando Pirates pushing to start.

Goalkeepers: Daniel Akpeyi, John Noble, Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho
Defenders: Ola Aina, Chidozie Awaziem, Jamilu Collins, Olisa Ndah, Kenneth Omeruo, Zaidu Sanusi, William Troost Ekong, Sheyi Ajayi, Tyrone Ebuehi
Midfielders: Joseph Aribo, Chidera Ejuke, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Kelechi Nwakali
Forwards: Taiwo Awoniyi, Samuel Chukwueze, Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Sadiq Umar, Ahmed Musa, Henry Onyekuru, Peter Olayinka

Sudan Form

Sudan are a stubborn side but their form isn’t very good at the moment. They have not won in their last 12 matches.

The Arab Cup prior to AFCON was a massive failure for Sudan as they lost all three matches. They also failed to score while conceding 10 goals as they lost to Algeria, Egypt and Lebanon.

The 0-0 draw in their African Cup of Nations opener against Guinea-Bissau will give Sudan some confidence.

Sudan Squad & Team News

With very little international experience, Sudan are likely to stick with the same side that got a point last time out.

Goalkeepers: Ali Abou Achrine, Ishag Adam, Mohamed Mustafa.
Defenders: Moaiad Abdeen, Mohamed Amin, Elsadig Hassan, Amjed Ismail, Mustapha Abdelgader Karshoum, Salaheldin Nemer, Mazin Mohamedein, Aawad Zayed
Midfielders: Gomaa Abbas, Walieldin Khedr, Mustafa Elfadni, Abdelrazig Omer Yagoub, Mohamed Al Rasheed, Dhiya Mahjoub, Captain Basheer, Mohamed Elmonzer, Mohamed Hassouin, Mohamed Kesra, Suliman Zakaria, Alsheikh Mohamed, Sharif Omar.
Forwards: Mohamed Abdelrahman, Musab Ahmed, Yasin Hamed, Algozoli Nooh.
